Flattering dresses for an apple?

peaceanddove · 24/04/2020 18:13

Hitting 50 soon and I am a classic apple shape. Still have good legs, neat bum and slim hips but I've really thickened around my middle despite not really putting weight on. I've just finished successful breast cancer surgical treatment which has left me with a breast reduction and lift (a silver lining, I guess) which looks amazing. But at this rate my stomach is going to stick out more than my boobs.

Please help me find dresses that will disguise my apple tum!

I’m an apple too. I wear shift dresses, shirt dresses, neat tunic dresses. Sleeveless or with neat arms. But I’m broad shouldered too.

Good shops: Hush, other stories, Next for their linen sleeveless dresses, and Whistles Lola dresses are made for apples.

This dress from Hush: www.hush-uk.com/iris-dress_1-midnight.htm?trackterm=Ivy

Next linen dresses which are really popular on here - flattering and comfy.

H and M can have some flattering clothes for apples Flowers

cakemeupbeforeyougogo · 24/04/2020 22:13

I'm apple-shaped and have always found skater dresses look best. It's something to do with the fact they are tailored to go in at the waist so give the impression of having a waist. I find shift dress make me look square though I'm only short which doesn't help

RandomMess · 24/04/2020 22:41

I am apple shaped and look hideous and pregnant in skater dresses!

RandomMess · 24/04/2020 22:44

I live in tunic style dresses similar to the next and hush ones linked to. V necks are particularly flattering and a bra with a bit of padding if it means they help dresses skim over your tummy.

TomHardysBitontheside · 25/04/2020 07:22

I'm an apple shape. I tend to wear long straight dresses. My favourite brand is Toast, but they're very expensive. I'm coveting this one at the moment:

I love these, agree a v neck is a must for an apple with boobs!

RickOShay · 25/04/2020 08:36

That Toast one is almost perfect.

TopShelf · 25/04/2020 08:56

I've just ordered one on those Boden ones, thanks, Tatapie.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 25/04/2020 08:59

Shapeless, unstructured, sack style dresses are really flattering on apples. Check out Cos and H&M

RandomMess · 25/04/2020 09:29

@CeeceeBloomingdale 😂 it's true!

If anyone comes on here and says they look good in a wrap dress they are clearly not an apple!

peaceanddove · 25/04/2020 10:16

I cannot wear wrap dresses because I have zero waist and wrap dresses just highlights the fact. I love those Boden dresses.

Great! The detailing makes you look like you have a waist, I have 5 Blush

RandomMess · 25/04/2020 11:16

Not sure I could wear that Bronte dress you would see my tummy...

Fluora · 25/04/2020 15:49

I had a previous incarnation of that bronte dress & it was a great shape when I was reasonably slim apple - less so when I became a fatter apple. Toast and seasalt (plain only) for me now.
