Does anyone else look really awful on FaceTime?

I have been video calling family and friends and look horrendous. All my features look bigger and distorted . Everyone else on the call looks normal.

Do I look like that in real life?

Oh yes! I just facetimed my best mate and we both commented on crap we looked. I look like my mother when she was 87. My friend says she always looks like a horse.

I think we probably do look like that in real life. Ditto others like Zoom, WhatsApp and Duo. Sadly.

There are rules. First make up is made almost invisible like on stage so trowel it on. Secondly get a stand or fashion one out of books and have it up high and back away from you, lastly lighting darlings. Soft lighting and not from above!

Try putting a tablelamp in front of you so the light softens your looks.

Apparently holding a phone camera near your face can cause the bits that are closer to the lense I.e noses look bigger than they are due to the wide lense. That’s what I choose to believe anyway

Thank fk this isn't just me! I've been avoiding Skype/Teams/FaceTime etc... like the plague for as long as I can remember but thanks to lockdown I have no choice! Colleagues on team meetings are fluctuating between "barely made an effort but look like a model" and "Shrek the remake." I am in the latter! Never thought I was vain until this!

The camera lense distorts the face, making the face look more bulbous by enlarging those bits closest to the camera (nose)

Having the screen higher so you’re looking up helps as does a lot of makeup but weeks without a cut or colour and I’m not looking my best. I might rub Vaseline over the camera bit for a soft focus effect 😁

I want to tell you something very comforting, as I too look like a fat troll on FaceTime. But my kids look exactly the same as in real life, so I think we all know what that means 😬🤦🏻‍♀️

I too absolutely refuse to do any sort of video calls! Flat out NOPE! I am willing to lose friends over this.
I cannot have a meaningful conversation with anyone whilst agonising over what appears to be my FaceTime Hapsburg Jaw. The moment I first saw myself morph into a Spanish Hapsburg, I disabled FaceTime and the rest. Taking the Fuck That train to Nopeville.

This thread is so funny! My FaceTime face is 10 times longer than I previous thought with an abundance of chins, the oddest expressions - and yes, like the rest of you everyone else looks as they look. Painful

My issue is my hair - wtf are the spikey bits at the top of my bob along my parting?!? Never noticed them in real life

I was a bit discombobulated at how my two bffs looked on Zoom. Since I've known them for more than 30 years and am the same age, I extrapolate from that how terrible I must look too!
