Tips for a round face

My face is almost round and it drives me crazy seeing myself in the pictures. Are there people with the same problem? Maybe some makeup tips work for you or at least some good photoshop skills lol? I do face building things but they don't seem to work.

I don't understand the problem, what's wrong with a round face?

I'm just not happy with the way it looks, @ludicrouslemons. I know there are celebs who look pretty fine with round faces (i.e. Selena Gomez and others) but I'm not one of them.

I had a round face when I was younger. I remember somebody saying to me you will be glad of that when you get older. Round faces tend not to look gaunt when your face naturally slims down as you age.

Here is a good article on makeup tips for a round face, my sister uses some of them and she says they work. If you want to change your looks in pictures, you can try Photoworks, it's a photo editor to make face look thin. But I'd stick to makeup, good contouring works magic, here is a video guide to it as well-

Well my face hasn't slimmed down with age - it's filled out and got rounder. And before anyone starts, no it does not make me look younger.

A good haircut makes a big difference for me - and my god am I missing that at the moment. It gives me my cheekbones back.

Also if you wear specs, those cats eye shape frames (that tip up at the right hand corner) are quite a good trick.

My face is also almost completely round!
I searched high and low on Youtube for makeup routines etc that can help and I did find a few helpful ones, I'll have a look and see if I can find them again but do have a look yourself as there's plenty.

One thing I did find is that almost everyone said to part your hair in the middle, which I do on occasion, but overall a side parting just suits me a lot better and genuinely does make my face look slightly less round, so you'll need to experiment a bit and see what actually works on you.

I'm gripping onto the fact that apparently a round face will make me look more youthful when I'm older!

Here are some of the videos that I watched and this first one helped me the most:

The tips of hers that I use and that work are the centre eyebrow arch, the contour (I only use a little bit of bronzer as I don't wear much makeup and I don't drag it into the centre of my face - I make a line with it about 2-3 inches long and end it there rather than nearer my nose). I also use the blush tips that she gave.

Other tips that I've discovered myself:

• When I apply foundation, I do it very gently and slowly. I take a tiny bit onto my blender or brush and start by applying it very sparsely in the centre of my face (so forehead, nose, chin, sides of my nose) and just work from there. If I do this, it gives me a more natural finish but it also allows my natural tint to be more present on the outer sides of my face which somehow makes my face seem less round. I assume this is because the focus is the "flawless" centre where I have makeup on.

• I have oily skin so usually use a matte foundation, however, I really feel like this makes my round face look even more round, I assume because it removes all dimensions. I tend to look a lot better with some dewiness.

• Lots of volume in your hair works wonders. If my hair needs a wash or is a bit lifeless, it really makes my face seem so much more round, whereas if I make sure that I have a lot of volume, it takes the attention away from my circular face.

• Straight hair elongates your face, however, I find that curls don't actually make my face look rounder as it gives me more volume, so just focus on whichever hairstyle you actually like.

• Avoid highlighter because it just draws attention to bits you don't want to be noticed. If you want to use it, use it mainly in straight lines in the centre of your face.

Oh, one more thing! When I did wear my parting in the centre, "curtain bangs" helped massively in slimming down my face. I'm growing them out now simply because it gets very hot in the summer where I am and I can't cope with hair everywhere, but it definitely worked!
