The Ordinary - which product is making me spotty?

I've been using Buffet, hylauronic acid and niacinimide in the morning then Buffet and rosehip oil in the evening for about 3 weeks.

I've noticed small red spots appearing in places I wouldn't normally get spots- forehead and cheeks, mainly. Any thoughts on which product is most likely to be causing this so I can cut it out for a while to see if it makes a difference?

Thank you!

For me, it's Niacinamide. It instant brings out my spots.

In fact, before I'd even opened the post, I knew it would be on your list!

Stressingismyhobby · 13/04/2020 10:55

How weird! I thought it definitely wouldn't be that as that's the one that's supposed to help with blemishes! Ok, might try cutting that out for a bit.

I heard that it's supposed to be like a cleanse with your skin getting rid of toxins when you first start using it and it'll pass

Whiffle77 · 13/04/2020 11:10

I was intolerant to rose hip oil which is quite common I think!

I instantly though the niacinamide too, it broke both me and a friend out instantly. Something in TO formulation is wrong I think.

Otoh I have been told in no uncertain terms to avoid any and all oils in skincare by my dermatologist so it could be that too.

Stressingismyhobby · 13/04/2020 11:49

Why did your dermatologist say to avoid oils? I have to say, I'm really surprised by the oil. I have quite greasy skin so I thought it'd make it worse but using the rosehip, I wake up with soft, non-oil skin whereas anything else I use would make me wake up really greasy.

TO niaciniamide really suits my skin, but both the HA and the buffet give me small bumps all over my forehead. Just for a different perspective! Could you try cutting all three out and then reintroducing each one until you find the culprit?

Stressingismyhobby · 13/04/2020 15:47

Think I'll try cutting the niacinamide first and if that doesn't work, I'll do what you suggest @MaryLennoxsScowl and cut all three then reintroduce.

I've had problems with the niacinamide before too. Made me spottier. I've tried it again recently and am using it in the morning under moisturiser instead of at night, and it seems to be helping the zits. It's the scarring I want sorted really.

Stressingismyhobby · 13/04/2020 23:28

Yes @BobbinThreadbare123 I only ever get the odd spot - usually big under the skin ones on my chin- but since using TO I've got small red bumps everywhere.

The HA did that to my skin and it’s generally clear (only occasional hormonal chin stuff).
