Anyone know about type 4c hair care?

DH hasn't been to the barbers for well over a month now, this is the longest I've seen his hair, he is a 4a/4c hair type - it's gone very dry and itchy.

I keep advising him to use coconut oil as we have loads in for our son's skin. But I don't know if this is even right.

Does anyone have advice on hair care as I think he's feeling a bit self conscious?

Thank you

I most definitely don't, my DD is mixed race though and I lurk on some FB groups - could you try there? The one I mainly read is for adoptive parents but I'm sure there are others.

Or could he ring the barber for advice?

There are lots of brands for curly hair that might help. He could follow the curly girl (curly guy?) Method to see what's recommended for 4c hair.

Cantu and Shea Moisture are both good, and I think both ranges have scalp oils to help with an itchy and dry scalp.

He should wash his hair, apply a silicone free conditioner and really work it into the hair by scrubbing his scalp with his fingertips and squishing the length. Rinse his hair, but leave a little conditioner in (or add more later). He can add coconut oil to soaking wet hair after the leave in conditioner and this should seal the moisture into his hair and stop it being so dry.
