Quick help! Washing my hair and hair dye??

Ive got hair dye to hopefully do today. Im a complete newbie as never done it before. Should I have washed my hair before hand? I washed my hair Wednesday morning so it's not mega dirty but not freshly clean either? How long after applying the hair dye do I shampoo my hair?
Thanks

You usually apply to dry hair. Most importantly though, have you done a patch test on your skin? You need to do that 24 hours before using the dye

No unwashed hair is better, stick the hair dye on. Leave for required time, wash off and if you want use the conditioner that comes with it. Then just shampoo as normal when it next needs washing.

Hi! I've been home dying my hair for decades. Read the instructions but most dyes you put on dry, unwashed hair. The process of dying it also washes it. A conditioner is included that you use after you rinse out the dye plus enough to use several times more (say once a week). I try not to wash my hair again for two (or more, but can't get away with not washing it for more than three) days as even though permanent, washing does lighten the colour a bit.
The packet will distinguish between root touch ups and full head of hair, I always do full head, but then I'm mostly doing it to cover grey and it's only a couple shades from my original hair colour.

Thanks all, it's on as we speak Smile

Yes I did the allergy test on Wednesday so all good on that front.

Thanks all, fingers crossed lol

If it’s a dark colour stick some Vaseline on your skin around your hairline, stops you dying your skin Smile
