Dying auburn over blonde highlights?

I’m a natural auburn with a sprinkle of grey. I usually have full head blonde highlights.
Currently watching my roots grow in lockdown,
Wondering about putting a box of auburn over the whole lot. Will this work or will it be a disaster?

Ooh me too. Sorry I can't offer any useful advice but I'm musing on the same thing.

I have done it before and it worked out OK, but maybe a slightly darker colour

i'm interested too. one of the things that is bothering me is what happens after lock-down...will my hairdresser struggle to put it back to normal with my blond highlights....i'm guessing not till the auburn grows out?

I did this with the same product and got hot roots, had to buy a better quality dye to correct them.

My concern is how you’ll get the colour to look even. The blonde areas need to be processed differently from your roots, or you’d probably be left with a demarcation line. The colour on the box looks different to your root colour too.

Going blonde from box dyed red/auburn is difficult, you’ll have to start your blonde colour over again and won’t get the result you want after 1 sitting. The stubborn red pigment from the dye will be hard to remove so expect a warmer end result. It won’t resemble the highlights in OP’s photo.

I think it would be easier to go back to blonde if you use a wash out semi permanent colour instead.

Why don’t you try a strand test first? You’ll see how it comes out before committing
