Do I dare to dye my roots at home!?

Obviously we are not allowed to go to the hairdressers at the moment. I was overdue to have my hair done before the lockdown so now my roots are terrible. I'm brown naturally but I get my hair highlighted blonde. Is there any at home kits anyone can recommend that doesn't make your hair look yellow/orange? Really scared to take the plunge but equally I can't bare my roots any longer!

I always dye my hair myself. Nice and Easy is a reliable brand.

I did it once and the roots came out orange so beware.

Don't do blonde at home. Be cool and rock the roots. I'm so glad I have balayage because my overall hair will be fine. I just need some powder or touch up stuff for the odd grey if I can't get to the hairdresser before I have to go back to workplace.

You aren’t dying it, you have to bleach and tone it which has much more scope to go wrong.

If your hair is highlighted you won’t be able to match your roots at home, both the highlight placement and the tone would look off. Unfortunately I don’t think you’ll be able to give yourself decent highlights. I don’t think going fully blonde on your regrowth would look right either, as you still have untouched strands of hair that were left out when you had highlights so overall it would look weird.

Josh Wood is good but doesn't really 'do' blonde. Apparently even the lightest colours come out brownish at first.

How about lemon juice plus sitting in the sun?!

I've been tinting my greys with coffee granules mixed with conditioner. Takes the edge off.

Thanks everyone. From all of your responses I have decided to keep rocking the roots. Too much can go wrong with bottle I think. I'll wait for the lockdown to be over and get it done properly with my hairdresser.

My bespoke hair dye has arrived from eSalon. Just plucking up the courage to use it. I’m going to pull it through all my hair though!
