DS (12) has thick, wavy hair which is growing out of control. He usually goes to a local barber where they use clippers at the back and sides, and scissors on the top. I'm considering tackling it myself...is this madness? We have hair cutting scissors, no clippers but I saw some at the supermarket and could get some. I have no experience in hair cutting whatsoever other than a disastrous attempt on an ex boyfriend many years ago. Can anyone recommend an online video? At least if it's a disaster no-one will see for a while..!

Saving as I have three with the same problem....

There was a hairdresser on This Morning the other day, I can’t remember the day though. He said to comb the hair out and cut rather than just cutting it as it is, and to chop in to it. It will probably be online.

Just watched that video and the woman is using kitchen scissors!

I did DHs using clippers on a not too short setting, it was very easy... but probably helps that there's nowt to do on the top. Grin

Ok so update (sort of). Well actually just more questions...

I watched the video posted above but it turns out that everyone else has been buying clippers and I can't find any. Anyone know if I can do the whole head with scissors? Even the lower bits and sides? Or is that way too complicated for a novice hair cutter? ShockConfused

My daughter used this - and she said it wasn't too bad!

CrocusPocus · 12/04/2020 19:25

She makes it look so easy!
