Dying over highlights with medium brown dye

I’m hoping someone can help me. I have some hair dye in the cupboard that I chickened out of using a few weeks ago (pre lockdown). It’s a medium cool brown colour by nice n easy.

My natural hair colour is dark brown but the top layer always seems frizzy / brassy (even pre highlights!).

I’ve had highlights which I love but they’re too expensive to keep up with!

So I have a few questions

  1. will it fade into orange? My eyebrows are black so this would look strange
  2. will my highlights be visible like dark blonde / light brown?
  3. will it go green?
  4. will the sun bleach my newly dyed dark hair quicker?
  5. will it fade and need redoing?

And 6) am I making a mistake? I love the blonde but it’s too much damage and effort Blush I have pale skin, blue eyes, dark eyelashes & dark eyebrows.

I’m feeling very very low today and I feel like dying my hair back to natural brown would give me one less thing to think about whereas I’m always worrying that my highlights look brassy and or damaged.

And a reminder that I already own the hair dye. Would hate to get flamed for non essential shopping Wink

Hey,

I did this last month & my hair went green, had to spend a lot of money to correct it. Tried to correct myself first then went sheepishly to my hairdresser with frazzled hair! Lol

You have to get a colour with red tone in it apparently then perhaps go over it with the brown.. Good luck!

@Perdita40 thank you!! Did you regret doing it?

I’m nervous!! Grin

Massively!! I really messed my hair up!

How blonde is your hair? How about doing just the roots so it's like a balayage?
