Philips Lumea on top lip

I got a Lumea at Christmas and have been doing underarms, legs and bikini line. Really pleased with results. Today is as 1st time doing underarms after 4 week break (I'm in top up phase) but there was a fair amount of regrowth.

Anyway have been dithering about whether I'll do upper lip. I have very pale skin and very dark hair so do have visible moustache but while dark it's relatively fine. I have never treated it before as i was always worried about regrowth though.

Given the lockdown it might be the time to treat it but has anyone done this and if so what was the regrowth like after a month and then over time?

Any experience gratefully received.

It’s fine - it doesn’t encourage regrowth. I do my top lip and have never had any problems.

Ronia · 29/03/2020 20:08

Forgot to ask how did you remove the hair to start treatment? I'm a shaver (legs and underarms) so have never waxed or buses a cream.on top lip. Not sure about shaving top lip though

I shave it beforehand.

Ronia · 29/03/2020 21:26

Thanks

Yes, same - I shave. Pretty much no hair left now after 3 sessions, definitely worth it!

WhispersOfWickedness · 30/03/2020 22:39

Are you me, OP?! I could have written your post! Just worried about starting it as then I'm committed to doing something about it, and shaving it all the time if lumea doesn't work!!

BunnytheBee · 30/03/2020 22:41

I have the Tria laser which is slightly different but really pleased with results after shaving too lip and chin Blush barely any regrowth

DropZoneOne · 30/03/2020 22:46

I've successfully used this on my top lip. The only regrowth now is very fine, tiny hairs that are quite light (not the dark hair from before) and not really noticeable.

On the underarm regrowth, i had the same when i left it 4 weeks and had to bootcamp again. Now i do every 3 weeks to keep the hair at bay.

Ronia · 31/03/2020 07:44

Thanks everyone. Interesting you had to do bootcamp again on underarms Dropzoneone. I did them again on Sunday (after 4 week break). Maybe I'll see how they are in 2 weeks and go from there

You have to maintain, because the treatment doesn’t remove the hair permanently. Essentially it puts the follicles into an extended sleep phase.

I’ve left it a little too long to do a maintenance treatment on my intimate area, so i’ll switch back to fortnightly treatments for a while. My legs and underarms are completely hair free for a couple of months at a time, these days. But I’m going to do them today as well just to be on the safe side.

DropZoneOne · 31/03/2020 18:12

@Ronia it was annoying, but i guess some hair returns quicker than others. I've found 3 weeks works for me at keeping it "asleep" so I've ditched the app and just set phone reminders instead

Ronia · 05/04/2020 15:53

What have you decided @WhispersOfWickedness ?

I think I'm going to start next weekend. Would do today but I used an AHA product earlier this week so need to wait

Ooh I was going to buy one of these. I have a for hair and it's dark and thick everywhere else. I'm saving money on lockdown so think I'm going to get one. Which model do you guys recommend? My bikini like is horrendous and thick as are my legs. Too lip not so gross but def needs doing as I cream it at the mo. Thanks

tallah · 05/04/2020 16:04

Also, does it hurt?

Ronia · 05/04/2020 16:47

Doesn't hurt at all. If you use max strength there's one spot on my bikini line which, for a split second, feels like a quick burn but the rest doesn't hurt at all.

I have the Lumea Prestige IPL hair removal device. Worked brilliantly on thick dark hair on legs. Worked really well underarms but am going to have to treat again. That was the first bit I did and I don't think I got it all properly.

Great thanks x

WhispersOfWickedness · 05/04/2020 21:44

I'm not really decided yet @Ronia Confused
Just scared of starting and it all going wrong, at least underarms and legs can be hidden!!

IamNotDarling · 05/04/2020 22:01

I’m doing my neck and lip now we’re in lockdown. Anxious about shaving but it went okay.

tallah · 06/04/2020 07:27

Are any of you mixed face by the way? I've heard mixed reports about it being used on dark skin

Esspee · 06/04/2020 07:35

It needs a contrast in colour between the skin and the hair so works best with dark hair on fair skin. I have light coloured hair and fair skin and it doesn't work on me. Sold mine (at a tiny fraction of the cost😢)

IamNotDarling · 06/04/2020 08:35

tallah Casper the ghost with jet black hair here.

My DSis is olive skinned with brown hair and she had successful IPL on her bikini line at a salon.

Ronia · 06/04/2020 09:45

I'm very pale with very dark hair too so results have been good but they definitely say it may be less effective on darker skin or with fair hair on pale skin.

My leg hair hasn't grown back at all after three years. Best thing I ever bought!

myidentitymycrisis · 06/04/2020 19:55

Like you @Ronia, I have a downy top lip.
Mines mostly blonde and I bleach it but never removed any hair
Now I'm menopausal i get one or two stubborn thick ones that dont take the bleach, I pluck them because I'm scared to shave and then on day 2 or 3 when it is beginning to grow back I zap it with the Lumea, seems to be working. No growth after 10 days.
