What can I do?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/03/2020 10:52

How can I productively use the extra time I have at home, without having to buy anything?

So far I'm:

  • shovelling hand cream on like a maniac
  • putting hair oil on every morning then putting my hair into a ponytail or bun
  • Elasticizer every couple of days
  • face oil two or three times a day
  • bath with essential oils every day

Is there anything I can do to help my nails? They are very thin and brittle, and I never do anything with them.

I've got a couple of sheet masks, so will have one as a treat on Sunday.

Any other ideas?

I have a 4 sided buffer by the computer that I use when I think about it .
You can massage olive or almond oil into the nail cuticle .

My nails are short for work so it is rarer I have any decent length on them

I'm going to try a proper facial at home - I want skin like glass Grin
Double cleanse , maybe a nice exfolliant , serum and moisturiser + eye cream. Not sure if I would put a mask in there , my skin might through a strop.

Use up all the dregs in the bathroom . I decanted a small Shampure into the litre then swilled a bit of water in and told everyone to use it .

. I am wavering over dye/don't dye .(Should I go grey? )
I have two boxes of dye
I have the time .

Korean Italy cloths after a bath (so effective !)

Feet? Dry file , cream, socks .

Wardrobe cull (though now I'm looking for a new handbag Blush )

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/03/2020 12:44

I did a wardrobe cull about a month ago and cleaned my drawers out so they are things of beauty. :)

Feet are a good tip. You've reminded me got I've got a foot scrub and some foot moisturiser in a box upstairs. I will activate them later! Good tip about oil on the nails too.

Keep your nails trimmed short (V difficult to keep clean otherwise) and give them a good long break from any polish. Maybe just a clear nail strengthener every few days.

Maybe try one of those foot peel things, the ones where the skin falls off after a few days

It feels like the right time to take up a new skill so I'm planning to finally carry out my threat of learning to sew.
I can then requisition my husband's clothes, refashion them and swan around like Nicole Kidman in Cold Mountain.

Jojoba oil for nails several times a day (and cuticles)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/03/2020 16:08

Thanks, all.

Sorry, Flo - I was too vague in my OP. I've got plenty to keep me busy, but I was wondering what I could do to try to help me body-wise! I've not yet been bored enough to exercise, other than walking and yoga - but maybe I should get the hand weights out.

I've got a very old sewing machine that I can't even remember how to thread. Might try digging it out.

Oooh - I think I've got some nail strengthener somewhere. Good call, Bronzed.

I have started to use bio oil and scar reduction serum on my legs. I have some weird minor scars on my ankles where shoes have dug in and random scratches on my calves etc. So hoping for super clear skin when we’re on the other side!

Floisme · 26/03/2020 17:01

Ah sorry! In that case I probably can't help much as body and face treatments aren't really my thing I'm afraid.
Finding a suitable exercise is my main concern as I mostly walk to places as much as I can but I dislike Going For A Walk. Cannot stand Yoga either!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/03/2020 17:05

I only like Going for a Walk if I can find a purpose, so I take pictures as I walk to pretend that is my purpose!

I don't like yoga, but I'm making myself do just ten minutes on each day that I'm off work in the hope that I will begin to want to do it.

I'm not really a body/face person either (although I do like going for a massage), but thought this might be a good chance for a bit of pampering.

Word of caution, buffing weak nails will make them worse, yes they’ll be shiny by become thinner and even more fragile.
I would suggest reducing the face oil application tipi avoid getting congested skin. If you feel like you must apply something to your face 3 times a day, make one of those a hydrating lotion or a serum.
You’ve got a nice plan going on OP.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/03/2020 08:00

Thanks, Branster.

The face oil is lovely, and my skin really likes it (it's a Sukin rosehip one). I've also got a lot of £££ Ester Lauder serum knocking about somewhere that was a gift. I'll start using that at night.

I haven't got anything to buff my nails with, so they're currently safe from over buffing!

I made bath salts yesterday - Epsom salts plus essential oils - and had the most deliciously relaxing bath last night.

I’m being quite basic but trying to do more

I have a Tria laser hair remover so I’m trying to keep doing that. I used it years ago and then put it away. I’ve taken it out again as I was getting some dark hairs on my chin Blush and this seems to have got rid of 90% of them after one or two uses. I want to do underarms, arms and legs too.

I was microneedling on a Saturday but have stopped since we’ve been at home. I will try to do that once a week too. I recommend it but doesn’t help you if you don’t have one and don’t want to buy anything.

I will do face masks

My nails need some TLC as they’ve been breaking but not sure I’d paint them and agree with PP it can do more harm than good sometimes. I have kale strengthener I might use.

Otherwise cleansing and moisturising face morning and night and will try to moisturise body at least every other day

Take daily vitamins and drink more water

Exercise (walking and running)
