Anyone tried Josh Wood Shade Shot Gloss?

Has anyone tried this semi-permanent colour/gloss?. I usually have my hair highlighted in a salon but I’m looking for something to help freshen up my colour until lockdown is over. I just came across this online & thought it might be less scary than trying a full-on permanent blonde dye (the last time I tried that was 18 years ago & my hair turned orange 😂).

I have naturally dark brunette hair but I have a full head of blonde highlights with little of my natural colour showing. I am also silver from my crown to my forehead/hairline. I was thinking of using the Icy Blonde shade. Any thoughts, tips or recommendations greatly appreciated 😊

Oh I'm considering trying them too! Hopefully someone will let us know what they are like

I have. They’re equivalent to a toner. So the cool ones will tone done brassiness, the warm ones will add warmth. But they won’t lighten your hair.

The icy blonde one is like a really, really strong purple shampoo. So it would tone the highlights and make them cooler, whilst also making your silver more silvery.

@RosieSunset Thanks for the info. I had wondered if they were basically a toner. I sometimes have a toner treatment at the salon between highlights to keep the colour fresher for longer so I think that this is probably the best type of product for me to use then. I definitely don’t want to dye it myself. In the grand scheme of things, I don’t mind the silver showing & because my roots are more white than silver the toner should brighten & freshen it too? And hopefully blend a little better with the highlights?

I’m not sure about the blending/brightening. If your hair is more white than silver I’d be cautious about it turning lilacy/blue-ish.

So would the golden version be a better choice?

Don’t know haven’t used it. The reason I have never used it is because on the Boots webpage the swatch/smear of the product is pretty much just yellow. So I would have thought it would make the highlights more golden but the white possibly yellow, IYSWIM.

I'm sure I read that these only last one wash. Anyone know if that's correct?

LHReturns · 26/03/2020 21:06

It is absolutely excellent. I am light brunette naturally with a half head of highlights and hate it when colour is due a refresh and it gets goldy looking / almost brassy. I have my highlights done at Josh Wood's actual salon, so I'm really quite uptight about the tone!

The Icy Blonde Gloss Shot is excellent when you want to avoid any hint of yellow creeping in. while it hasn't helped with the roots (it isn't a dye) it has seriously kept the creamy/cool blonde tone for SO much longer between colour sessions.

I now use it as a conditioner once or twice a week (I use about a third of a tube each time), and only leave in about 5 - 7 mins. When I leave longer I think I can see a slight blueish hint on places.

Highly recommend!

I think it's effect is good for 1 - 2 washes...but may vary from hair to hair.

LHReturns · 26/03/2020 21:11

Rosie - The Icy Blonde one reverses any sign of yellow which can appear after many washes in even the creamiest of highlights! obviously if you like a golden / honey tone you wouldn't use the Icy Blonde one. I think there would be a risk of getting a blue/purple hue if you left it in for ages, based on my various testing....so I would start gradual and see how it goes.

Floraflower3 · 26/03/2020 21:15

I tried the dark smoky brunette one. It was hard to see if it worked because the end of my hair have a semi permanent black on them and my natural roots are a very deep brown.

I potentially didn't use enough though. I bought it because a lady on Instagram uses it (works in partnership with josh wood) and it looked amazing!

I have one sitting on my wardrobe .
I also have some Spare Time .

I was going to wait till after I'd dyed my hair but I really CBA doing the dye .

So I;m not looking for colour so much but what about the promised gloss .

I'll do a patch test/strand test today and maybe apply tomorrow .

Does it leave hair shiney?

MuggaTea · 27/05/2020 09:58

Hi, I want to try this,
how much does one bottle last? I mean, how many treatments do you get from one bottle?

princessbear80 · 27/05/2020 13:58

I use the smokey brown to tone down brassy tones. It’s great for that, but it doesn’t particularly leave hair soft or glossy. It doesn’t last longer than a couple of washes, nor does it cover greys well (if at all!).

princessbear80 · 27/05/2020 13:58

Oh and it also stains hands, wear gloves!
