I had to halve the contents of my basket! Still got a nightshirt, cardi and silky PJ top due to arrive any minute... Blush

Well you will enjoy those things I'm sure! I certainly can't afford, and don't need all these trousers. They are the most comfortable things ever but I'm hoping 2 or 3 pairs go back!

I’ve pretty much locked down on personal spending for fripperies for the time being. But I am sorely tempted by a few things from Toast...just looked this morning...plus lots of other favourites brands. Sigh. We’ll see how long my resolve lasts!

Style, fashion and beauty is my favourite hobby, but buying less for a while will give me time to properly enjoy all the things I already have.

dudsville · 21/03/2020 18:31

I know what you mean Nink, but i can't manage it.

Ninkanink · 21/03/2020 20:41

No judgement at all! I’d be doing it too if I could legitimately afford it. Grin

My DH is looking out for me and keeping me grounded (much more sensible than me) and I am letting him because I know it’s the reasonable thing to do right now...

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 21/03/2020 20:54

I think nobody will see what I’ll wear as I think we won’t be leaving the house for a looooong time, so will wear hoodies and shorts this summer, I’ve decided

I had 4 lovely things in my toast basket but could not be bothered

Weird!

Countmeout · 22/03/2020 08:07

By the time I made up my mind something I thought I really wanted was gone but on the other hand like @TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead I wasn’t sure I’d be wearing anything much for the next few months so resisted the other two items I had in the basket

PersonaNonGarter · 22/03/2020 08:35

OP, I have found your post really comforting.

I assumed that we’d all be living in gardening/yoga clothes and that no-one would be buying clothes they can’t show off. Please keep the stores going for us! Smile

Floisme · 22/03/2020 09:56

I wouldn't have been buying even in normal times as I'm skint, but I think it's interesting how it clarifies what we do for our own enjoyment and what we only do for appearances. So me, I'm still careful (most days) how I dress but wearing no make up and totally bemused by all these threads about still painting nails and sheet masks. No judgement either way, it's just interesting.

Enjoy the trousers. I'm worried for stores like Toast who, whether you like them or not (and I do) offer an alternative to the mainstream high street 'look' - if admittedly only for those who can afford it. Last year was also pretty dreadful for retailing the and you wonder how many will survive.

Veronicat · 22/03/2020 10:12

I've bought some stuff from Next in the sale . May as well be stylish in lockdown.

Ninkanink · 22/03/2020 10:24

I feel really fortunate that I had just last month decided to move my focus away from day-to-day casual clothes/work clothes/going out clothes (of which I have plenty), to starting to build a wardrobe of luxurious pyjamas, dressing gowns, lounge wear, kimonos and pretty slippers. I’m lucky to be spending my days performing as much self care as possible, wafting around feeling elegant and pampered.

Notonmyshift · 22/03/2020 11:17

I have lots of virtual baskets on the go.
Can't spend on any of them , but I do love browsing the shops and beauty counters.
I find it comforting

EraOfTheGrey · 22/03/2020 15:37

I've bought 5 things in the sale and I'm now worried about how I'm going to return any items that I don't like. I feel a little foolish for ordering so much to be honest.

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 22/03/2020 18:03

notonmyshift, I have a virtual basket at Toast, Hush and Uniqlo Grin

It is the equivalent of window shopping I guess

I’d love to wear nice clothes just for fun but I live rurally and my day always starts with a wet muddy walk which puts a dampener on things Smile

I like to dress for work.

But will probably lose my job

So it’s a bit of harmless shopping basket entertainment Grin costing nothing

CountFosco · 22/03/2020 18:56

I've just bought for the kids. Now they aren't going to be in uniform for months they need more jeans and tshirts. DS's feet have just grown so DH took him for a lightening visit to Charles Clinkards yesterday morning to get trainers. They were the only people there, the staff were cleaning everything and shut last night. Hope they survive, they are a great local company.

MerryDeath · 22/03/2020 20:58

i bought that beautiful checked mohair coat i've been ogling for £195 !
bargain but then i went and chucked in two pairs of £18 socks because i liked the colour Hmm

Ninkanink · 22/03/2020 21:00

Oh god I don’t even want to look...

So many lovely things.

Florabritannica · 22/03/2020 21:03

I’ve splurged I’m afraid. If I’m going to spend the next three months gardening I might as well do it in clothes that make me smile.

Ninkanink · 22/03/2020 21:09

I’ve splurged on two dressing gowns from one hundred stars:

onehundredstars.co.uk/collections/sale/products/one-hundred-stars-cherry-blossom-gown

onehundredstars.co.uk/collections/sale/products/one-hundred-stars-strawberry-gown

I intend to wear them as day-long leisure wear throughout spring and summer.

Moominmammaatsea · 22/03/2020 21:18

Reading this thread has persuaded me to buy the Made in Britain scarf I’ve been eyeing up all season and couldn’t justify. I’m a totally lone parent (adoptive Mum) and my 12-year-old and four-year-old were upset this morning that they hadn’t been able to buy me a Mother’s Day gift (Granny normally obliges but she is extremely vulnerable so has been self-isolating for weeks).

I’ve explained that I have paid for the scarf out of their inheritance (generous grandparents) so they’re happy and I’m happy! WinkGrin Joke, obviously, for fear of provoking the haters.

I don’t NEED another scarf but I would be really upset if Toast went under as I’ve shopped with them from the start and the enduring, wear day in, day out garments in my wardrobe are Toast (and Margaret Howell). If my scarf purchase can make a difference to keeping Toast in business, then it’s money well spent.

mizu · 22/03/2020 22:29

I bought a cardi and a burgundy silky dress, all great mark downs. Wanted the PJs too but couldn't justify and when i went back the next day to look at them again, they were all gone! Had the green cord dress in my basket too but was too late to buy.

Anyway, I got them delivered to the shop and now wont be able to pick up for ages. Hey ho, bigger things going on.

Moominmammaatsea · 22/03/2020 23:08

In the interests of clarity, I did also invest in a beautiful Kindred kimono jacket I'd had my eye on for ages. It is absolutely beautiful and an heirloom piece to hand down to my girls. I was really touched that Toast also sent me a gift of a coordinating Japanese furoshiki bag from an off cut Japanese fabric. I earned about five million Brownie points from my 12-year-old, who is obsessed with Japanese fashions and culture, and it left a feel-good glow and a desire to support the business through thick and thin. (Hence the scarf I don’t really need).
