Sns nail pandemic advice!

Feel silly asking this as obviously so many more things to worry about....!

But about 1.5 wks ago I had sns powder dip nails done with tip extensions
Still looking ok right now
I’m not sure if nail place is still open but in any case I want to follow advice about social distancing and would prefer not to go in.

They’re starting to get a bit long
Can I cut the fake tips at home with normal nail clippers and then file?
Can I repaint over the top with normal nail polish to make the regrowth gap less obvious?
What would happen if I didn’t do anything, would it just come off eventually?
Is there a chemical I can order to use at home to safely remove them myself?

They’re my first lot so I don’t even know how they normally remove them

I am a keyworker and will still be going into the office for now so I would like them not to look awful/ridiculous!

Or am I better just seeing if they’ll remove them for me today before everything shuts down

Not sure what SNS nails are but most of the acrylic type nail extensions tend to crack if you try to cut them down, but you could give it a go, you can soak them off yourself if you have some Acetone, if you don't you can order it from Amazon or Ebay, best way to soak them off is to scuff the surface with a nail file then cut a cotton wool pad in half soak with acetone and then wrap round nail and then cover and wrap in tin foil and then leave them for 10 minutes and then they should peel/slide off, you nails will feel soak but a good wash and slap a lot of oil or hand cream on to help your hands recover.

I wouldn't cut them off if I were you, I would leave them on until they get ropey and then soak them in acetone which you need to put in a bowl and then put your nails in.

You can use cotton wool and foil but that will only get gels off - not acrylics.

GreyHare · 21/03/2020 17:19

Gel is the same stuff as Acrylic though, just diffing curing methods are used normally, if you do the bowl thing then put the bowl of acetone in a glass or ceramic bowl and then place in a larger bowl with warm water around it like Bain Marie as the warmth will speed the process up.

If you put foiled acetone on acrylics and hope they'll come off you'll be waiting forever (from someone who did it once 😳)

Thanks everyone
So far the sns themselves have been lasting really well but they were getting too long so I filed them down.
Now the regrowth at the top is looking pretty odd as it’s quite a strong colour so I think it’s time to take them off properly. Am going to try the acetone.
I think I have to file/buff off the shiny layer first?
Wondering what they will look like underneath! And if the acrylics will come off with the acetone or not.

Yes file the top off first, then acetone on cotton and foil or the bowl thing. Be patient. It will take a while. I soaked mine off last night. It was fine but took longer than I thought it would ❤️
