How to bleach hair at home?

I'm off work for the foreseeable future due to the current health crisis so I thought I'd dye my hair blue or purple. I have dark brown natural hair and need to know what I can order from Superdrug to not kill my hair in this process. What bleach/ products should I buy to not kill it or is this the worst idea ever? For reference, I'm thinking something like this:

20 volume peroxide and powder bleach.. you may need to do it twice.. apply lots of conditioner and leave on few days before..a higher strength bleach will destroy your hair and scalp but will work faster !

Worst idea ever - just watch bleaching fail YouTube videos to get an idea of the reality of home hair bleaching!

To get your hair that bright, your hair will need to be bleached to blonde.

No one’s going to see you, just focus on getting your hair as healthy as possible so if you do bleach it in the future at a salon, it will survive

Don't do it. It takes experience and skill to do it and if you get it wrong, your hair will simply snap off and/or turn Ronald McDonald orange. Just play around with toners and the like. Do not home bleach. I repeat, do not home bleach!

i have done mine at home and its been ok but its light brown naturally...it needs to be done a few times gently...do not use 40 volume etc as it will break up....you can use hair conditioner mask in between the bleaches...but you have been warned...it can go patchy and orange !

Watch Brad Mondo's bleach fail videos.

I was just going to say watch Brad Mondo!

Even it's just to take away what they did wrong.

I wanted to do the exact same. Instead I just got an Garnier olia purple dye and applied directly onto natural hair. It's not bright but shows up a bit and now I know that it's worth investing at a salon to get it brighter. Nice for now but definitely want it brighter in the future!

Could you highlight your hair then tone the highlights blue and purple?

lamppostdog · 26/03/2020 21:48

Try Directions hair dyes

PennyGold · 26/03/2020 21:49

Oh my gosh, no.

Or at least just do a chunk of the end, not your scalp!
