Not so much concerned about contagious element

More whether not point spending the money, not as though going out socialising or working for foreseeable future.

What’s everyone else doing if had beauty and hair app scheduled?

I got mine done on Saturday in my usual Aveda salon. Hairdresser said no rise in cancellations. I think this week might be different. I noticed the walk-in brow/nail place by my work was shut today, and the ladies who do threading in the shopping centre all had masks on.

Bella2020 · 17/03/2020 21:57

I have an appointment for a cut & finish next week and, if the salon is open, I fully intend to go. My hair needs a good tidy up. I'll message the salon owner a bit nearer the time to find out what's happening.

I got my nails and threading done on Monday but now wish I hadn't bothered as I'm not going out for a long time!

Lily193 · 18/03/2020 09:17

I have an appointment for next Monday which I think I'm going to cancel. I only have a few highlights along my parting so I can live with dark roots for a while. I love wearing headbands, scarves, hats etc so hopefully won't be a problem.

BonnesVacances · 18/03/2020 09:47

We have a home hairdresser. I messaged her this morning to say I won't be cancelling and we'll just take precautions when she comes. DD is one of the vulnerable and we're all self isolating now, so I know we won't pose a risk to her (hairdresser). We'll just wipe down anything she's touched after she's gone. DD will be in her room the whole time.

That is quite a loose definition of “self-isolating”.

I’m quite relaxed but I’m self isolating. If and when the time comes - I won’t be having a mobile hairdresser come to my house!

You will think I’m judging but I’m not. Each to their own. However I think you need to adjust your thinking. You aren’t self-isolating

Yes I see your point. Grin But it's about balancing the risk of contamination and continuing to support people's livelihoods. She only cuts DS' hair and with the required distance between them and taking all precautions, I think it'll be ok. We have face masks and hand gel too.

Bringringbring12 · 18/03/2020 12:08

What is the “required distance”?!

I have an image of your hairdresser with arms fully outstretched trying to cut hair!

It all sounds a bit daft tbh!

I was debating actually making an appointment for Saturday, counting on there being a few cancellations.

HasaDigaEebowai · 18/03/2020 13:34

definitely not. Its non essential social contact.

EmmaOvary · 18/03/2020 14:30

Of course not. Why? Because my roots are less important than killing someone. Hope that helps.

Mooserp · 18/03/2020 14:36

I won't be going although my hair already looks pretty horrendous with grey roots. Not sure if this is the time to embrace the grey or get a home dye.

Zinnia · 18/03/2020 15:01

I've just come back from my hairdresser. It's a small independent salon I've been going to for 10+ years. I was the only customer for most of the time I was there, one other woman came in. I washed my hands and used the sanitiser they had by the till. I offered to pre-pay for my next appointment which they sweetly declined but I've told them to call me if they need to. I'd be heartbroken if they went under.

Bringringbring12 · 18/03/2020 18:40

Changed my appointment for tomorrow

Can’t bloody wait

Small local salons for both hair and nails
They are currently struggling and while they stay open I will go
Both are offering ‘private’ appointments early and late in day for vulnerable clients

Retailqueenie · 19/03/2020 13:09

No. Cancelled mine for today.

Its not worth the risk of exposing my two elderly neighbours whom I will shop for until this has all blown over.

pazwaz70 · 19/03/2020 13:11

I'm sat in hairdressers now! At least I'll have nice hair.

LadyEloise · 19/03/2020 13:30

The biggest chain of hairdressers in Ireland, Peter Mark, with 71 salons around the country have closed. They do a great blow dry.

Ireland is more pro active than UK in social distancing at the moment.

WingDefence · 19/03/2020 13:39

I was going to keep my appointment for tonight as it's been ages since my last haircut and I have no idea when I will be able to have one again but my hairdresser has just texted me to say that she may have to cancel as her DH has to work late and she can't get childcare (I assume her DPs babysat before and now can't).

I was a bit worried about being in close proximity to someone who has been in such close contact with lots of other people though so I wont be gutted if she does cancel (even though I'm desperate for a cut!).

ReginaGeorgeous · 19/03/2020 14:14

I fully intend to keep my hair an nail appointments unless I need to isolate myself. As it stands, I have no symptoms and I use local independent salons at very real risk of going under. I want to support them.

OrganzaLopez · 19/03/2020 14:51

Purely vanity i would go if you have plenty of savings as you still have video calls, social media photos etc. And if you die you'll look nice.

DramaAlpaca · 19/03/2020 15:41

Very true.

mistermagpie · 19/03/2020 16:05

I went on Monday but she's a mobile hairdresser, although I go to her house rather than her come to mine for various reasons, so it was one on one. We both took precautions as much as we could, and DH was at work and my kids at nursery at the time so it wasn't as if we were isolating or anything. I don't think I'd go now though or for next week.

WYP2018 · 19/03/2020 16:10

I had an appointment with my mobile hairdresser Wednesday, I cancelled but paid her so I’ll have it done when either we’ve both had it or restrictions get lifted.
