Olaplex help please..

Hi,
I had my hair cut and highlighted at the weekend and my hairdresser used all the steps of Olaplex when she was doing my hair. My hair felt super soft and sleek when she had finished...although I did think that it looked a bit greasy but definitely didn't have any fly aways or feel as brittle when it would normally be coloured. Is it worth buying the products to keep this up at home? I know I could get no 3 the weekly treatment, 4 and 5 is shampoo and conditioner and 6 and 7 my hairdresser mixed these together before blow drying. If I was to buy any...can't buy them all in the one go as too expensive, which should I go for? Anyone have any experience of them? Thanks for your help.

I was using 3 at home, but it hasn’t done much for my hair. The salon treatments make it soft and glossy, the home ones don’t seem to do anything... some people seem to swear by it, but a few of the people that I know who do also have it Olaplexed at salons every fortnight, so presumably are just “topping it up”... It’s probably worth a shot though; everyone’s hair is different.

Be careful of where you get it from, there’s a lot of fakes on Amazon etc.

I use 3, 6 and 7 and have never had it applied at the salon. If I were to only buy one it would be number 3, followed by 7 then 6. I definitely notice a big difference when I use number 3.

UpToonGirl · 16/03/2020 13:22

I've been really pleased with 3 - 7, haven't used it at the hairdressers (but I do just box dye). 3 is a re-bonding treatment it's not supposed to make your hair soft/shiny just helps strengthen it.

I like to mix 6 & 7 after washing and often use 7 on dry hair every so often. I also added it to my hair dye last time I used it. My hairdresser actually commented how good y hair was looking when I was in there the other week - that never usually happens!

It's hard to say which has been the best as I've been using all the products at the same time but I would say 3. I use it overnight, says on the bottle a minimum of 30 mins (I think) but I don't think that would do much for my hair.

I leave 3 on over night. My hairdresser commented my hair was in better condition and asked what I was using.

3 is the most important. It’s essentially the condensed version of the salon treatment.

The rest are nice but not essential if you’re on a budget. You need a good moisturing mask too though - as explained by PP #3 isn’t a conditioner

Do you know anyone with a salon services card? I get the salon olaplex travel kit and do some home treatments with it.

Wearyandfeelingold · 17/03/2020 11:04

@Jonesn1 Is the Olaplex travel kit not just step 1 and 2 for when you are colouring your hair? Or can it be used as a treatment?

@risefromyourgrave thank you - what shampoo and conditioner do you use?

@UpToonGirl thank you - do you use the shampoo and conditioner all the time as well?

DILUTED OLAPLEX FORMULA WITH GLOSS:
You may use No.1 Bond Multiplier diluted with water as a treatment. Mix 15% 1/2oz (15ml’s) of Olaplex No.1 with 3oz (85ml’s) of tap or bottled water in an applicator bottle.
Saturate hair from roots to ends. Comb through.
Process for 5 minutes and towel dry. Do not rinse.
You may apply any root or all over glosses.
Rinse well, towel dry and proceed to Olaplex No. 2 directions for an added treatment. Smile

Yes, I've started using it as my regular shampoo and conditioner. I got a gift set at xmas with 3 - 6 (and bought 7 separately) and I liked it so much I've repurchased the s&c, which were just minis in the set. I've still got a fair amount of the other products left as I find a little goes a long way, I've got quite long, thick hair. No 7 especially looks like it will last best part of a year even though the bottle is tiny.

If you can find the gift set or minis they would be a good place to start as they are pricey, one of the few expensive products I haven't felt like I've wasted money on however!

Wearyandfeelingold · 17/03/2020 14:22

@Jonesn1 thank you for your help - I didn't realise it could be used diluted. I thought it was just in salons when they were colouring your hair. Thank you.

@UpToonGirl thank you. I will have a look and see if I can find a gift set with the minis to give them a go. Someone suggested even 3, 6 and 7 to start with and can use any shampoo. I will check it out. Thank you for your help.
