Best of the cheap conditioners

For me, it was always the yellow (for normal hair) Herbal Essences old style. When it was BOGOF, I used to stock up. Sadly, nowhere to be seen.

Finances are about to take a hit and I want to stock up on conditioner (3 girls in this household with looooong curly hair). I know it seems the least of our worries at the moment, but it'll be something small I tick off my list.

Any suggestions? I've tried Supermarket own brands and they're all a bit watery.

Revlon Flex in the yellow bottles. Although that was 25 years ago. I still miss it. RIP.

I have long, dry, coloured wavy hair and I’ve never found better than Tresemme luxurious moisture for mine and I’ve tried just about everything from cheap to high end and everything in between. The 900ml bottles are always on offer for around £2.75 and last ages.

scarfaceace · 16/03/2020 09:33

Alberto Balsam - the coconut one works best for me.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 16/03/2020 09:34

Another vote for Tresemme, the conditioners are all really good and I also love the clarifying shampoo, my hair has never been so shiny.

ElektraPlektra · 16/03/2020 11:51

I use vinegar. I tried about twenty different conditioners in the ten years before that, and they were all crap. Vinegar has been the only thing that makes my hair soft and shiny (and no, it doesn't smell).

Dove.

princessbear80 · 16/03/2020 13:20

Ultimate blends almond crush. It’s often on offer in supermarkets/boots. It’s great and is also curly girl method friendly, if that is of interest.

Wonkybanana · 16/03/2020 13:33

These hair food conditioners are very good. They come in a huge tub, £7.99 but regularly half price in Boots.

Imanamenotanumbernow · 16/03/2020 15:22

Another vote for Ultimate Blends almond crush. It’s great on my dry curly hair. Helps manage the incessant knots in both my DD’s wavy hair, and it makes them smell so delicious I could eat them.

willowpatterns · 16/03/2020 15:31

We used to use Avon leave-in conditioner on dd2's long hair which worked really well.

She's an adult now and uses Aussie.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 16/03/2020 15:47

I really like L’Oréal elvive dream lengths - its often on offer and the bottles are quite big. It smells lovely and is really moisturising.

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 16/03/2020 17:26

Aussie 3 minute miracle. It’s the best!

Victoria1083 · 17/03/2020 00:41

Somebody recommend Elvive in red bottles for colored hair (blond, thick, dry and fairly damaged in my case). I’m really impressed! It probably has a lot of nasty chemicals but it makes my hair look very nice - so I’m not looking at the back of the bottle for the moment...

AFifthOfKoolAid · 17/03/2020 08:53

I have very curly, semi afro hair and use Supedrug's coconut water conditioner, white bottle with green lid. It smells gorgeous and really softens my hair and keeps the curls nice. It's usually on some sort of offer where one bottle is £2-2.50 at most.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/03/2020 19:15

I have some Aveda Dailt Repair (not cheap it was £25 full price )

And a Paul Mitchell The Conditioner (cannot remember how much it was not mega bucks ) but because they're Leave In , you use a fraction of a rinse out one .

And because they work for my hair , I'm not searching for the Holy Grail.

Body Shop Ginger (but only using the shampoo+ conditioner in conjunction )

ChicCroissant · 17/03/2020 19:21

The pink Alberto Balsam one (raspberry?) here, really seems to suit my DD's long (straight) hair.

Aussie 3 minute miracle is also good, but the Alberto Balsam one is about a pound a bottle, really cheap.

TheWashingMachine · 18/03/2020 10:28

I love Elvive, the smell is so lovely too

TeaAddict235 · 18/03/2020 20:59

I like the Elvive Total Repair (tub with the red lid and white base)

The Pantene Repair and care 3 minute mask (golden tube)

selly24 · 18/03/2020 23:37

Try cantu?

ThatLibraryMiss · 18/03/2020 23:55

XHC ginger conditioner, £1 from Poundland or B&M, is good and it's Curly Girl friendly. Is supposed to be a knock off of the Body Ship one.

WelshMoth · 19/03/2020 21:05

Thanks everyone!

I use a £1 from a pharmacy argon oil conditioner on. DS’ curly mop and it works really well!
