grey hair - what do we think...

I'm a bit fed up with high lights every few months - I was wondering whether to let the grey bits just blend in gradually - I haven't much, just the odd bits around hair line at front -my natural colour is mousey/fair ... would this be giving into middle age or could it look quite stylish (with a good hair cut) ?

Have had grey in my hair since before I was a teen.Never really bothered about it.Only dye it if it looks awful as have only ever dyed it once with semi permanant to see what I'd look like with cinnamon coloured hair.My Dp wishes I'd do it again as he loved it.
My Dp however has brown hair shot through with silver and it's gorgeous. He's not so happy as he says 30 is too young to go grey, but he's also receding so that might be to do with it as well

TellusMater · 09/09/2007 11:43

Underneath my dye I am completely grey. I started going grey at 16, and there was no way I was going to go grey gracefully then, and now it's just something I do...

Have thought about going au naturel, but I'm only 36 FGS. I can't be grey!

men are lucky notanotter ! - dh has nice hair, thick but cut v short and has bits of grey which look ace ! my hair is disappointingly fine. A friend's mum (a hairdresser) once said that I had 'poor hair', which has always stuck with me. Ds has his dad's hair which is a relief !

A friend of mine has grown out her grey hair. It looks nice but I know it took her a while to feel comfortable with it. I think if you're used to dying, you have to make a mental adjustment to going natural.

BecauseImWorthIt · 09/09/2007 22:36

If you look at my profile you can see my picture which was taken to be used in an article in The Times (which was pulled) about women who dye their hair.

Hopefully my highlights look natural, but they are in fact to disguise my white hairs. And they're not grey, they're bright white!

Miaou · 09/09/2007 22:40

I love my grey! However I am fortunate - it's an even speckling all over, a nice colour and it softens the colour of my hair (it is naturally a dark brown and looks too dark for my skin imo).

I would only dye my hair something daft like bright red or blue (but then my kids wouldn't talk to me )

Isababel · 09/09/2007 22:46

I love mine. I have a few strands of white hair growing from a single spot at the left/front. I love the way they look but I may change my mind in the future when the pattern of white changes.

spitzhund · 09/09/2007 22:51

I think grey hair looks old.

Hathor · 09/09/2007 22:54

I think a good haircut can make anyone's hair look good whatever colour it is. Why do the grey/white hairs seem to appear first at the temples or at the parting, rather than in the thicker bits of your hair?

RosaLuxembourg · 10/09/2007 01:15

I'm 43 and have been completely grey (as far as I can tell) for at least five years. No way is anyone prising the Nice & Easy from my grasp. I am too young to be grey.

Desiderata · 10/09/2007 01:27

My dh went completely grey in his thirties and it really suits him. But blokes are lucky like that.

My genetics are different. I won't go grey for ages yet (I'm 42 now), although I do find the odd, thick hair and pluck it out.

My dilemma is that my hair isn't a colour. It's neither blonde nor brown. It's mouse. And I have never seen a bottle of hair dye called mouse.

makealist · 10/09/2007 01:52

Even worse than grey hairs on the head, I've recently started to get grey/white hairs in my eyebrows. I have lovely dark eyebrows and it looks ridicules.

makealist · 10/09/2007 01:54

ridiculous

sibble · 10/09/2007 02:01

I started to go greay early 20's sadly and you're right the old eyebrows are starting to turn wiry . I couldn't live without both my highlights although when younger (pre 40's) I used to put in alot of gold it's more low lights now with a few shades of brown not sure what am going to do with the eyebrows though. ds always moments on my mums wiry monstrosities

sibble · 10/09/2007 02:01

that was highlights and straighteners

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/09/2007 13:25

ok - I am due to have my hair trimmed and highlights done about now, but I think I'm just going to hang on a bit longer and see if I can live happily with these grey bits - the cut is ok and was quite short last time,so is growing out quite pleasingly so that's ok. The grey is just at the parting so it does show but could be construed as deliberately placed grey lights !! shall I stick with it ? am feeling brave, despite my 49th birthday looming in a few days....
