How do you wear dresses in the Spring?

My ‘rule’ is that black opaque tights come off 1st April. This means I can’t wear dresses anymore and I live in them for work, unless I wear leggings or footless tights?! Confused I don’t think there’s an answer, just venting. I have so many dresses and not so many work tops.

Such a trivial thing to concern myself with I know, but I actually find planning my wardrobe for the month strangely comforting and reassuring

Why not wear thinner tights?
Or if you find this self-imposed rule causes you problems, drop it

caulkheaded · 14/03/2020 07:27

Well, I don’t have your rule so I still wear black tights. With lighter coloured dresses I wear skin colour or navy tights.

Frenchw1fe · 14/03/2020 07:28

Florence and Fred in Tesco do really nice skin coloured tights which make legs look lovely.

Lidlfix · 14/03/2020 07:33

I have similar rules . No boots afterEaster hols (I am a teacher) and not before October brea. But as I am in Scotland tights can be worn up till the end of May and reintroduced in September.. I tend to wear longer dresses until 7/8 trousers that would too cold in winter.

circleorsquare · 14/03/2020 07:39

How funny! Just dress according to the weather and not the date! I'm a teacher and find it odd how many teachers have these self imposed rules!

OnlyTheLangoftheTitBerg · 14/03/2020 07:41

Why would you set yourself a rule that literally no one else knows or cares about and that just makes your life harder?

Now I remember why I usually stay out of S&B...life’s too short!

Purplecatshopaholic · 14/03/2020 08:14

Why do you have this weird ‘rule’? Wear what you like...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/03/2020 08:20

Wear thinner black tights. Or fishnets. Or nude tights. Or nude fishnets. Or lacy tights. Or navy or grey tights. Or just wear black opaques, although I do think they look silly in summer.

StarlightLady · 14/03/2020 08:38

I love dresses and my “rules” are temperature/weather driven, it makes much more sence than dressing to the seasons. Opaque tights when it cooler, sheer tights, or usually stockings, when it’s warmer, bare legs when it gets hot.

mintbiscuit · 14/03/2020 11:22

I have the same rule OP Grin Opaques when it’s officially spring just feels wrong!

I do nude tights but good quality ones that are sheer and the right shade for my leg. So they look invisible.

A light fake tan and bare legs when the weather warms up.

my spring and summer dresses are midi length so not much leg gets flashed though!

I don’t like opaque tights in spring and summer either, and I feel the cold, so I generally only wear dresses in winter or if it’s hotter than about 25 degrees.
I did invest in a pair of (sexy as hell) nude, mid-thigh length long johns last year thinking that they’d extend the season I could wear mid-length dresses with no tights. Haven’t had the chance to test the theory yet though.

Itsashame · 14/03/2020 13:29

I can’t wear opaque tights in late spring either op, even if it’s colder weather. Looks wrong and feels wrong. It’s a winter look. I get where you’re coming from.

userabcname · 14/03/2020 13:32

Just....carry on wearing the tights then?! What a peculiar "rule". I wear black opaque tights all year round especially as I'm a teacher who often wears dresses. Leggings look scruffy, footless tights annoy me and I don't want to go to work bare legged (mainly because I can't be bothered to regularly shave my legs).

DelphiniumBlue · 14/03/2020 19:57

Coloured rather than black opaques?

fartyface · 14/03/2020 21:44

on the plus side we might have to stay in for months so this dilemma might be avoided this year :)

I have this problem too.

RaisinsRuinEverything · 15/03/2020 17:32

In Spring I wear my trusty black opaques with lighter coloured dresses and cardigans. The opaques are kind of what binds everything together! Grin I don’t wear anything that’s too pale or floaty for opaques, those things are for summer when it’s warm enough to go bare legged. Sometimes I wear tan or navy knee boots.

Supersimkin2 · 15/03/2020 21:26

Fake tan, legs don't get as cold as you think in a midi.

Ginfordinner · 16/03/2020 06:51

No, but my feet get cold, and I am utterly miserable when I have cold feet.

I don't share the MN dislike of nude tights, so they are my tights of choice when it isn't cold enough for opaques and not warm enough for bare legs.
