Dyson straightener...

I was perusing the bbc website and have noticed that dyson have released the new straighteners, cordless and adjustable heat.

I am pathetically tempted by these, but they're £400 Blush apparently the battery lasts 5 years apparently, and you can use them with or without the cord.

I have the hair dryer and the air wrap and both are bloody amazing. However I bought both eBay for a lot less than the price rrp, one needed a new plug as her dog had chewed the end off (airwrap) and the other the woman selling it didn't like the black and pink colour Hmm Do I really need this?

I have really thick curly hair that I never brush because I can't be fucked with messing with the curl, I do straighten it but my hair always looks shit unless I use the hair dryer to blast all the water out and then use the curler to curl it, because it's own natural curl is so tight it looks ridiculous.

When I do get round the straightening it I get bored half way through and it never goes as straight as they can do it in the hair dresser, I use ghds and it takes well over an hour to straighten my hair at home, and I'm still left with a wave, and then because I got so sweaty during straightening my hair it goes curly 👍 will this solve my hair woes?

I want one too! If Boots sell it then wait for triple points and that takes the edge off a bit.

IanHislopForPm · 13/03/2020 05:10

@RAOK ooh that's a point. Boots are getting stock in I'm on the waiting list Blush

I'm trying not to even look at this! I am a bit of a sucker for expensive hair products.

Thinking about it I really don't need it as I barely use straighteners anymore now that I have the airwrap, I also have pretty new cloud9s if I do want to use them...must not look! I did recently buy the longer barrels for the airwrap which was actually a good purchase as my hair is quite thick and long.

UpToonGirl · 13/03/2020 08:57

Ffs, I looked! It does look good but obviously ££. The videos I just watched on YouTube were all women with mostly straight hair just making their hair smoother rather than really frizzy/curly hair so I would need to investigate more...but I won't as I'm trying not to get sucked in.

Maybe I'll wait until xmas time and get this instead of an advent calendar.

timeforawine · 13/03/2020 08:58

Not straightener related, but is the hairdryer really worth it OP? I'm tempted

Does it not worry you how Dyson doesn’t seem to produce products which last? I’ve gone through three vacuums now and given up on Dyson. Costco which has an amazing returns policy on everything; my in-laws returned a faulty TV after 3 years; doesn’t guarantee Dyson products for over a few months. I’ve had two hand held vacuums and they were really ££££££ and they’ve both gone wrong and can’t be returned after just over a year. Sorry I really think there are better products out there which aren’t as expensive and are more reliable.

UpToonGirl · 13/03/2020 09:12

@bestbe I've not had any trouble with my other dyson products, I've got a cordless Hoover that's about 7 years old and an upright that must be about 5 now and they're fine. I dont take good care of them either. It is a risk with such expensive products though, especially something like the airwrap as there are quite a few parts to it.

coffeecoffeecoffeecoffeecoffee · 13/03/2020 09:13

I probably wouldn't tbh. I've got the air wrap which I like but had to have fixed in the first 2 months as it just stopped turning on. Service experience wasn't the best. I say this as someone who buys every hair gadget going.

When cloud 9's work so well and do such a good job I have to wonder how much better a straightener can actually get? I've got the ghd oracle too which is amazing. My next purchase will probably be the ghd straightening brush as you can get a blow dried straight smooth look without flattening your hair like with regular straighteners.

Princessfaffalot · 13/03/2020 09:38

I’d love to try the glide, it looks perfect for my hair!

IanHislopForPm · 13/03/2020 11:35

@timeforawine I love mine it takes about 1 mins to dry my thick hair completely bone dry down from over an hour

10 mins not 1 min Blush

Thank you @IanHislopForPm Smile

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/03/2020 15:01

I don't buy Dyson anymore, they're expensive and don't last ime.

IloveJudgeJudy · 15/03/2020 17:50

I love my Dyson hairdryer as does the rest of my family. I find it keeps my hair very smooth.

Bathroom12345 · 15/03/2020 17:55

I have a Dyson hairdryer and shoulder length hair. I dont rate it. Wash and dry every day and although it is nice looking my Parlux is better but I feel I should use the Dyson because of the cost.

Mercurial123 · 15/03/2020 18:02

I have the latest Steampod. My dry, frizzy curly hair is straightened in half the time as my regular straighteners. Heat damage seems to be less. I've tried a friend's Air Wrap and it wasn't great on my hair.

Jonesn1 · 15/03/2020 18:03

Mine arrived on Wednesday Grin... I love all the dyson hair tools but not sure about it tbh. I can’t see a huge difference to my GHDs and this would be no good to travel with due to weight.
Depends how much you use straighteners I guess, my airwrap gets my hair quite sleek and straight so my straightener addiction is over.

IanHislopForPm · 18/03/2020 04:13

@Jonesn1 how're you getting on with it?

OP posts:
Jonesn1 · 18/03/2020 08:33

@IanHislopForPm my hair seems to be staying dead straight for longer, I wouldn’t trade my airwrap or hairdryer for it tho!

Wetcarparkrain · 18/03/2020 09:17

So cloud 9s or steam pod? I agree the hairdryer is amazing and life change, the air wrap just a bit meh for me, mostly use it for kids hair. Scared to spend on the straighteners but actually need them! Like the non-faffy nature of the sound of them.

gingersausage · 18/03/2020 11:44

@Wetcarparkrain I’ll vote against the Steampod if that helps. My daughter has copious quantities of long, thick hair and the Steampod made it greasy and limp.

For the best combination of performance and value, the Remington S8598 Keratin are supposed to be the best straighteners on the planet.

Mercurial123 · 18/03/2020 17:03

My hair stays straight and is definitely not greasy and limp. My ceramic straighteners made my hair crispy. The Steampod gives better results.

happilybemused · 19/03/2020 09:31

I have the air wrap and it's definitely worth the money.

In my opinion the straighteners are no better or worse than my GHD's. Not sure how they compare to other brands.

I personally would t buy them again but that's just my opinion
