Please help. Should I wear jeans and maybe a shirt to make it look better, or maybe a skirt (I only have very short ones) and top? I’ve managed to get myself into a tizz Grin

Dont try too hard. Look clean. Wear simpl÷ clothes that you feel good in

okiedokieme · 11/03/2020 20:38

Whatever you feel comfortable in, just not a low cut top or really short skirt

Bathbedandbeyond · 11/03/2020 20:39

Ok! Short skirts are out! Got it Grin

She may be just as nervous as you. First time I met my partner's Mum, I got dressed up as if I was going to a royal garden party. She, bless her, had been told I'm very posh (not true) was equally dressed up and she served cucumber sandwiches - with the crusts cut off.

GBroGal they made me laugh Grin

Just don't go all matron like and wifely. You'll act all weird. I speak from bitter experience.
If you like short skirts wear a short skirt. It's her son you're dating not her. If he's that swayed by her opinion of you you probably don't want to go dating him anyway, would save a lot of hassle to find out now.

Trust me, she won’t even care. Just wear your regular clothes. It’s a bit of an archaic concept, getting dressed up to be paraded in front of the prospective inlaws.

Floisme · 12/03/2020 11:45

Unless you have reason to think otherwise, I would assume she's thrilled that her son has met someone and anxious for you to like her.
I would just wear something casual if you're going to her house, or appropriately smarter if it's a bar or restaurant.

Friendsofmine · 12/03/2020 11:48

I would dress up a bit too.

I disagree she won't even care. It's not an interview I get it, but first impressions still count to me.
