Would you spend £700 on a little black dress?

Would you?

Because I am tempted and I have NEVER spent that kind of money on clothes.

Its Stella McCartney and when I tried it on I looked better than I could ever have imagined.

I have several big parties coming up, I need an outfit and I want to reward myself to getting back to a size 10 for the first time since I was 18.

Is it a gross thing to do?

It depends. I would if

a) I had the money/credit available
b) I thought it would be a good investment buy
c) I loved it
d) It fitted with my priorities, i.e. atm we're saving to buy a house so no, I wouldn't but in usual months I might well decide to spend on something I don't need but really want.

Dinosaur · 07/09/2007 15:39

If it looks that good, you can afford it and you will have occasions to wear it, what's stopping you??

RubySlippers · 07/09/2007 15:40

if you can afford it then you should
is it a classic? could you wear it year on year?

CountessDracula · 07/09/2007 15:41

I would if it was perfect in every way
you will get years of wear out of it
If it is very "now" fashion wise maybe not as you won't like it in a year or two maybe

claricebeansmum · 07/09/2007 15:41

I have.
I bought an Armani evening dress. I don't usually buy designer clothes but it looked the dogs nuts and has already done several occasions. It is most definitely an investment.

If you can afford it - then do it.

I wouldn't, even if I had that much money. I know this sounds horrid but what if you don't stay a size 10?
Unless you are in some kind of job where looking good is important for your career, or you are trying to attract a husband, or something, I suppose.

WideWebWitch · 07/09/2007 15:42

So I wouldn't prioritise it above essentials but if you can afford it and it's amazing then go for it. If you know you have several events you could wear it for too then it's absolutely worth it. At 5 wears, say it doesn't sound nearly as expensive.

But I am v good at blowing money and having NOTHING to show for it (i.e. swanky hotels) so I think £700 on something you love that will last sounds like a good idea.

SO BUY IT!

RubySlippers · 07/09/2007 15:42

buy it and post a picture

suzycreamcheese · 07/09/2007 15:43

do you have the money?
if its not going to kill you financially then...
knock em dead!

its not obscene amount and sometimes the right thing to do

have you got a link?

my sister spends £££'s, $$$'s on clothes and it most of lies in heaps in her closet or in storage in some port..thats foolish..

WideWebWitch · 07/09/2007 15:43

And I am also deeply ious of size 10, well done!

artichokes · 07/09/2007 15:46

We do have the money (I promise I am not scarificing DD's footwear...). I think I might go for it. Although Kathy is right, I may not stay a size 10 (its only 13 months of BFing that got me here and now DD is weaning so I am losing my personal liposuction machine).

What is stopping me is that I normally spend about £700 a year on clothes. Not because I can't afford to spend more but because I choose to spend my money on other areas.

I think I am going to do it. This dress made me feel amazing. As if I was 21 and fashionable again. I loved that feeling .

Now I just have to accessorize...

I could never imagine spending that much on a dress, but if I was rich, had lots of dress occasions, and the dress was that amazing, then I would!

belgo · 07/09/2007 15:46

do you have a link?

cookiesandcream · 07/09/2007 15:48

no wat

Kathyis6incheshigh · 07/09/2007 15:49

Go on then, just make sure you go out to lots of nice things in it!

And post a pic!

brimfull · 07/09/2007 15:50

is this it?

sorry bit cheeky

artichokes · 07/09/2007 15:51

I do have a link but I have to admit it looks sooooo unexciting here. It looks like any other little black dress. You have to see it on me to understand.

kekouan · 07/09/2007 15:51

I would, if I could afford it. I'd cringe while paying for it, but if it's a classic and then it will last for years.

great incentive for staying a size 10 too!

:D

brimfull · 07/09/2007 15:52

it's gorgeous I love it!

artichokes · 07/09/2007 15:52

How on earth did you know that ggirl????
Am a bit scared now.
Do I know you?

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 07/09/2007 15:55

If I had it? Sure.

brimfull · 07/09/2007 15:55

Haha,no I just googled stell mcartney and that's the only black dress for around 700quid.

artichokes · 07/09/2007 15:58

Thank God. I was worrying you might be one of the many friends I have already bored with this conundrum. I am glad you like it.

I am sooo excited. I feel like Anne Hathaway after she gets the makeover in The Devil Wears Prada. Except less gorgeous. And fatter. And older...
