Hourglass Foundation Stick Shade Help

Fronkenstein · 07/03/2020 10:58

I’m sorry, this isn’t an interesting post but could really do with some help on choosing the right shade. I live nowhere near a store that stocks the sticks so am having to make a decision and purchase online.

My perfect matches in other brands are:

• Too Faced Born This Way Concealer in Swan

• Too Faced Peach Perfect Foundation in Swan

• Nars Sheerglow in Siberia

Based on this, I know that I’m at the lighter end of the shade range and have narrowed it down to the following:

Blanc, Cream, Alabaster and Porcelain

Now I just need to pick one, help!

For reference, I’ve attached the following pictures:

(1) Too Faced in shade Swan (labelled)
(2) Nars in Siberia (labelled)
(3) Hourglass shade range including the 4 I’ve narrowed it down to.

Can anyone help me, please Smile

Ok so you're yellow/warm toned which scrubs out alabaster, blanc and cream technically as they're all cool toned
Porcelain is neutral so that might work

ClientQueen · 07/03/2020 11:10

I've been and looked at some swatches, I think you might struggle with a match
Blanc is technically the one as it's the palest and you're using the palest in the other foundations but it's the wrong tone. The swatches do look quite warm toned though. I think porcelain will be too dark for you

Try watching a few YouTube videos of people using the product, I've done this before and it can be helpful. There should be a few for hg although try to find someone who doesn't film with filters or crazy bright lights as that obviously changes the shades a bit!

Fronkenstein · 07/03/2020 11:14

Shock thank you ClientQueen.

I did think the first 3 looked quite pinky. Blanc looks almost white on some swatches though.

I feared porcelain might be a tad on the dark side. I’ve stalked YouTube reviews and it seems to look so different on each person.

I guess I could always buy a lightener if it is too dark though. But that does add to the already pricey purchase.

Ugh I hate my skin tone.

Thank you UpToon, I never considered the use of lights. That would explain why it can look so vastly different on YouTubers.

They don’t make this easy!

I use the websites findation and temptalia to get foundation matches and I've never yet been let down.

From the foundations you already use, blanc is the match it throws back.

Google image search this to death, Watch YouTube/Instagram, search Pinterest and you should hopefully get an idea of people who wear this shade and if you think it will be a good match for you.

If I can't get an absolutely perfect match I prefer foundation to be slightly too light over too dark/orange and then adjust my bronzer/blush to make it a perfect match.

WeCameToDance · 07/03/2020 14:13

I can’t help you but I can sympathise. You seem to have the exact same skin tone as me. The most perfect match I have ever found is Nars Siberia but not many brands seem to do a very pale but also slightly yellow toned foundation. They are always pink toned!
Anyway I gave up and use cc creams that tend to always come in ‘light’ instead of foundation. I don’t find it matters too much if there not exact as the coverage is so light that it’s pretty much non existent anyway.
I hate my skin tone too, it’s a pain in the arse. I’m going to follow this thread with interest.

Thank you @ibetternotgetit I usually use findation too and oddly when I add other shades I use, such as concealers, it switches from blanc to porcelain.

I’m glad I’m not alone @WeCameToDance It’s incredibly frustrating isn’t it. So far I’ve tried the following:

Good colour matches:

  1. ELDW in 1W1 - oxidises & too heavy.
  2. Mac studio sculpt & Mac studio fix in NC10 - clogs pores.
  3. Nars sheer glow and Nars all day in Siberia - found it dry and too light coverage.
  4. Too faced BTW and Too faced Peach Perfect in Swan - perfect colour match.
  5. Armani in shade 2 - didn’t like it at all.
  6. Dermacol in 207 - too heavy, transfers.
  7. Charlotte Tilbury Magic in 2 - awful.
  8. Makeup forever HD in Y205 - dull and drying.
  9. Bobbi Brown in Porcelain - too light coverage and slightly off colour.
10. Bare Minerals in Champagne - medium cover. 11. Huda in Vanilla - slightly pinky and cakey 12. Fenty in 120 - slightly peachy and cakey

These brands I got samples in and couldn’t colour match:

  1. Dior
  2. Chanel
  3. Laura mercier
  4. Clinique
  5. YSL
  6. Tarte
  7. IT cosmetics
