Hi all. I am stuck in a make up rut and would like to learn how to do it a bit better/more fashionably. Can anyone suggest particular tutorials to look for on YouTube ? I'm in my 50s if there are any that focus on more mature types

That's good to know Xing. I really need to sort this out for a wedding.

For a really glam look you can also try Risa Does Makeup (though you do have to get past a rather grating voice). I’m sure she’s had work done though - she has said she has breast implants so why wouldn’t she have work done on her face? But she has some good tips for hooded eyes, as do Angie and Dominique.

@TheDogsMother, Lisa Eldridge did a MOB make up lesson that I thought transformed a pleasant-faced 50-year-old lady into a real star. It was probably too time-consuming for everyday wear, but the goal was a face that would last all day, surviving tears and embraces, with no more attention than a lipstick re-touch each time she needed the loo.

I will definitively check that out Xing, it sounds like a tutorial I need to watch. I am the bride but it's a low key daytime event so daytime makeup is perfect.

Ariane Poole does make-up tutorials for the more mature and prefers to do a more natural "best you" look. Has her own make-up line too

Alysen Walsh, who blogs as That's Not My Age, has occasional contributions from Vicci Bentley, formerly beauty editor on a big magazine. The most recent featured a clear out of a lifetime's cosmetics, and what she kept... Ariana Poole represented quite a chuck of the keep pile. If I were near London, I'd pop in for a look.

...chunk of the keep pile... obviously

I am going to Charlotte Tilbury in London for a makeover but these can be a bit hit and miss in terms of the final look. Which is why I need to learn my own. Thanks everyone for all the links and advice. I know what I'll be doing this weekend

I think Wayne Goss does some very good make up tutorials. He does a lot of short videos on specific things - eg: hooded eyes and some longer full face ones too. He’s to the point and doesn’t appear to do sponsorships etc so I feel he’s a bit more honest than a lot of beauty you tubers are. He does have his own brush range but doesn’t really push it or mention them every video which is also refreshing.
