Just sat in my car waiting for the rain to stop and thinking how I basically look like an expensively dressed slob
Today I am in
Hush lightening bolt print joggers
Grey alpaca slouchy socks
Black fleece lined suede Birkenstock Boston clogs
Merino wool slouchy jumper tucked in
Massive oversized free people jersey quilted printed biker jacket
Olive Ganni wool hat (a drunk online purchase and I have zero regrets)
Oh and a massive teddy fleece tote bag in beige

I’ve always wanted a style but didn’t have the confidence to wear the clothes I admired on other people.

SBS analysis, the attached FB group (which I know isn’t for everyone) & the MN OOTD thread gave me the confidence to care less about what others thought & just go for it.

I ended up developing a style I’m really enjoying (SBS describes it as a “girl next door with an edge” & tbf that’s pretty accurate). I wear clothes which nip in at the waist (either naturally or by adding a belt) as I’m an hourglass.

My style usually consists of:

  • Girly midi dresses (Think floral/polka dots) worn with a black leather belt & black boots
  • Peg leg shaped trousers (cotton or faux leather) with thin knits tucked in
  • Mom/straight jeans (high waisted) with thin knits/t-shirts tucked in
  • midi skirt with a thin cropped jumper on top & black ankle boots
I’m also hoping to add a real leather jacket this month.

I'm trying to ditch dark colours for vibrant jewel tones, and I'm trying new shapes, so my old style is gone. I don't know what to call it.

Bag lady chic. Leggings, l/s stripey top, handmade (by me) tunic dress with massive pockets, knee length hooded cardi, big socks and walking boots. Hair like Crystaltips as I forgot to put anti-frizz stuff in it when I washed it last night.
Yup, a truly headturning ensemble.

I have recently embraced the Little House on the Prairie look together with lace up ankle boots and voluminous cotton long sleeve dresses

I seem to have a wide variety of 'looks' depending how I'm feeling. I'm a social worker and was recently told by a teenager that he must be 'the only kid with a gangsta social worker'.
I had on black ripped skinny jeans, black roll neck , biker jacket and leopard print trainers. I'm 52! Shock

My outfit today screams “I’m a mum, but can still rock out” Grin

Thick leggings with skull print.
Black nursing tshirt.
Black patent Dr Martens.
Winged eyeliner.
Scruffy mum bun.

I seem to be developing a, Little Old Lady Escaped From the 1970s and Landed In Birmingham' look at the moment. My outfit yesterday was:
Denim midi skirt in faded blue
Black turtle neck
Clarks Originals block heeled black suede boots
Biker jacket
Baker boy hat

Indie kid. Albeit it an aging late 40s one.

I kid you not, I am still wearing some of the clothes that I wore as a teenager.
Vintage 60s mini dresses, always with opaque black or coloured tights and flat boots. In the summer with a denim jacket or cardy. When it's colder I chuck a jumper over my frock!

I occasionally wear jeans, always with a fitted striped t-shirt and little black pumps.

As the years tick by I've often wondered if I'm too old to dress like this? It's hard though, it's totally who I am and I've remained the same size so why not?
According to my 18 year old dd, her friends think I'm 'really cool' so I can't look that ridiculous/bad!! Grin

Grungy, dishevelled Satanist Grin

I think of my style as less-is-more normcore/nuncore

Today I’m wearing wide leg slightly cropped navy cords, a white t shirt, a navy wool/cashmere jumper, stripy socks and black DM monkey boots.

Lily193 · 08/03/2020 16:14

Boho currently with a 70s edge

Today I’m wearing:
Isabel Marant crochet jumper
Vintage silk maxi skirt
YSL platform sandals with lace tights
Etro plaited leather belt
Cashmere shawl
