Midi/long patterned dresses for larger ladies??

I’m a size 16 with big boobs, and I really like the highly patterned midi shirt style dresses around at the moment, but I think I might look ridiculous in them. Anyone larger managing to pull it off? Care to share how??

Do you have a waist? Could you stick a belt on with one? Go and try some on - play around with scale (this is one of the best tips I've ever had - I'm tall and large-framed and can't wear ditsy prints at all, but larger patterns look good on me).

It might be about avoiding anything with a pocket or fussy detail on the front, no pussy bows or frills for example. Try a cami underneath and undoing one button more than you would usually. How long is your neck? If long-ish go for one with a collar, if not look for granddad style or even better a v shape that will elongate you're neck and flatter your boobs.

I find dresses like this incredibly difficult to get right, so many look fab on the model online then completely "meh" on me - or worse! But when you find one that works you'll know.

Gah! *your neck!

I’m an Apple, so not much waist sadly.
I think I’m going to start with a patterned maxi skirt and a plain dark silk top tucked in and see how that feels. I fear I would look like a one woman haberdashery department otherwise!

If you are apple shaped, wouldn't a dress be more flattering than a top tucked into a skirt?

Mm, good point.
See? MINEFIELD!
