Semi permanent colour

Hi, I’ve found my salon dyed hair isn’t lasting the 8 weeks between appointments and my mid brown permanently coloured hair is looking very orangey. Any recommendations please for semi perm box dyes that will freshen my colour up as I really can’t afford to have it coloured every month. Thank you!

I have had exactly your problem! I have brown hair which turns orange. Most of the advice seems aimed at blondes who go orange but not us brunettes. Hairdressers were zero help! They just shrugged and kept on dyeing it again.
The problem is, repeated colouring makes the orange worse, as each time the dye bleaches away your own brown pigment - to reveal your Northern European base orangey tone - and replaces it with the dye colour. This dye then washes out pretty quickly exposing the bleached orange hair underneath. The more you dye, the worse this problem gradually gets. Semi is better than permanent as it doesn’t strip your own colour so badly but over time it will contribute to the problem.
My solution - after EXTENSIVE googling - was to try to dye it less. Much less!
If you are re-colouring mainly to get rid of orange rather than grey - do not use dye at all. Use a toning shampoo! Use it every time you wash! (or most times). Personally I find L’Oreal purple shampoo/conditioner pretty good but there are lots of brands. Toning shampoo is now my daily shampoo - with occasional gaps when I use a clarifying shampoo to give the hair a thorough clean. Over the past few months I have noticed a huge difference in orangey-ness.
I now only ever use dye for actual grey. And if it’s just the roots, I touch them up with a semi-p at home to increase the duration between going in for a full dye.
I also spritz on hair oil after washing - keeps hair more glossy and conditioned and again the colour seems to look better overall.
I wish I’d read a post like this 2 years ago when I looked like Ronald McDonald. Good luck!
