Hi, please be gentle as this is my first post in S&B. So I need a dress for a wedding (as a guest...laid-back, rustic etc etc). My usual choices just make me feel frumpy. I am mid 30s, size 8-10, 5'4, small boobs. My marriage has just imploded and he will be there. This isn't about making him want me back, but I want to feel amazing.
I tried this dress on in John Lewis today. I felt good but I couldn't decide if it also looked a bit like a dressing gown...
Fwiw I normally wouldn't go midi or wrap/v neck but it seemed flattering. Maybe I need to try more in this style?
Anyone got any other suggestions? I don't have a massive budget!

Thanks for helping a very inept shopper!

Lots of lovely dresses at french connection at the moment that I think would match the occasion. www.frenchconnection.com/category/woman-collections-dresses/dresses.htm

Here’s a boho one to show off your good collarbones.

I LOVE this dress it's got a really nice carefree vibe, I think it's perfect

Another vote for the Anthropologie dress. It's beautiful

Thanks for all your suggestions.
I ordered a load of dresses and even a couple of jump suits but it just feels like frump city. Perhaps I just have really bad taste! Well actually one of the jump suits was ok. I may post a picture if feeling brave, but don't know whether the legs are right...
What I have found though is I look in the mirror and think 'that looks ok' then take a picture of myself and realise I look awful!
Thanks for the suggestions re: silkfred and dancing leopard. In the meantime I will order lots of different styles and see if anything suits. That Anthropologie dress is cute. I will order that too to try...
Personal shopper here I come though. I need neutral advice!

I think you can do miles better than that dress. Go on the wedding dress guest section on asos. There are tons on lovely outfits in your price range.

EmberElftree · 05/03/2020 09:48

Bardot style dresses will show off your collarbones, there are loads on asos.

Something like this product code 1449546 is also floaty and hippie-ish if you like the colour. Sorry I don't know how to link the photo!

EmberElftree · 05/03/2020 09:53

Or the silk fred bardot off shoulder frill dress comes in lots of different colours and will show off your collarbone and is floaty with the frill.

@BunnyandBee you sound like me ten years ago. I know what you mean, you want to feel like yourself but not play it too safe! I really like oasis for low key glammy outfits. They are good for petites too. I agree with pp get a consultation or take a trusted friend/relative. Don’t underestimate a good blow dry, nice bit of make up and accessories to bling up a more low key dress

Go to H&M and talk to one of the assistants there - honestly they would be thrilled to help you out - especially knowing your cirumstances!

My lad's prom suit didn't turn up and the assistant was phenomenal and my lad rocked up looking very cool!

I am the same size / height as you - the last 2 weddings I have been to, I wore wide crop trousers with a high waist. Black ones with a dark green high necked long sleeved sheer blouse to the winter one, mustard ones with a lacy cream high necked sleeveless top to the summer one - so flattering with high heels/wedges , it's now become my go-to style. Compliments aplenty!!!

How about this one? I think PPs are wise, you’re petite, so you can either go long or floaty, but probably best not to do both at once.
