Dress for a spring wedding, help!

I'm attending my friend's wedding on the weekend after the Easter weekend, in April.
She is getting married in a new but rustic type venue, by the side of a loch on the west coast of Scotland.
The meal is served at long tables in a barn (where the service will be if the weather isn't great) and family style starters and sides.

It is casual by many wedding standards these days but it is also still a wedding. Over the past few years the weather at this time of year has been very hot but with it being loch side there may be a breeze. I also can't wear heels because of the ground conditions.

I had looked at dresses that could be worn with nice wedges, had short sleeves or could be worn with a wrap in case it was chilly, in either a midi or maxi length.
I'm also carrying more weight than I am comfortable with and feel quite crap about myself. We also don't have she'd loads of excess money and will have spent £450 on the hen do and accommodation for the wedding, before a present and outfits, so high street is my friend.

What do we think of these dresses? Possibly swapping the red belt with a black one to tie in with shoes.

My favourites are the yellow and red dress (final two). Was going to suggest not wedges, I do actually like wedges but sometimes they’re too casual, I feel, but with info regarding venue/location I think they are perfect.

Love the yellow dress.

PixiePowered · 29/02/2020 11:19

Thanks both. I do like the yellow dress and hopefully the wrap style will help me look less crap (I still have some semblance of a waist).
I agree with the wedges being casual comment but if the ceremony is outside it's on the grass and then the barn has rustic wooden flooring which can be uneven.

Don’t like those fit and lair floral fifties style dresses at all.

Love the first one and the yellow one. And the wedges look great. I have also put on a pair of chopped off tights under a dress in similar situations for warmth. I would also wear a leather or suede biker jacket.

I love the ASOS one, with the mustard one second.

Atalune I have some Primark cycling shorts, mainly cotton so I'm not sure how nice they'd be if you actually cycled, that I wear under all dresses and skirts for chub rub/limiting potential flashing incidents/warmth. I also have a pair of chub rub shorts from Snag Tights too.
They'll be under anything I wear 😂

I like the ASOS one, I love all of Twisted Winders pieces on there arm.

I love the very first one and the last (mustard) one.

Ninkanink · 29/02/2020 12:10

The wedges aren’t too casual for the venue or site, they’ll look just fine. You’d likely look quite silly staggering around in proper fancy shoes!

Really, honestly, don’t say you’ll look ‘less crap’. A bit of extra weight doesn’t equate to looking crap - It’s a little ways away from the current ideal enforced onto women, that’s all.

I do find that I feel much better when my silhouette is more streamlined, so I’d suggest getting yourself some medium shapewear (not the super strength kind, and definitely not a size down). If you feel better about your general silhouette you will be in a more positive frame of mind when you try on your dress(es).

FlorenceLyons · 29/02/2020 16:10

I love the Asos one - it looks more unusual and more modern than the others.

Ninkanink · 29/02/2020 18:29

Oh I do agree on the first dress, it would make a very cool outfit with those wedges.

CatOnABeanbag · 29/02/2020 20:23

The first one! Definitely!

Girlintheframe · 29/02/2020 20:36

Love the yellow dress and the shoes
