Lemon juice on hair?

I've read lemon juice on hair in the sun will make it lighter, has anyone tried this? I was born with auburn ginger hair which naturally turned blonde once I was two. My son has strawberry blonde hair and his dad was born with platinum hair. I wonder if his will change? I remember my mom using camomile on my hair in the summer time. My son has strawberry blonde hair so you can see some blonde and red highlights running through his hair. I'm just curious

yes it works..

I think it's quite drying though.
And if it sweats into your eyes it would sting.

Camomile infusion sounds lovely though. I used to use sage - dried sage soaked in boiled water , soak, cool, drain. Then used as a rinse .(I have dark brown hair)
Really shiney (if a tad herby smelling)

I wouldn't put acid on your hair tbh

mouse70 · 28/02/2020 19:06

It works!

missl1 · 28/02/2020 19:20

I used to do this when I was a teenage. It works but it makes your hair like straw.

The acid in lemon juice is mainly citric acid (plus malic acid) both of which are weak acids (like most organic acids) and the molarity is about 300mM which is not that high. It will dry your hair but no worse than any other way to bleach it.

Thank you everyone for your help 😄
I did read the lemon juice can be drying on your hair so I'm going to do a deep conditioning treatment afterwards. (Also praying for some sun in the next few months here in England) lol

You do realise it's still only February?

There won't be any sun strong enough to bleach your hair, with it without lemon juice, for a long time v yet!

PhoebeBear · 28/02/2020 22:55

@MrsJoshNavidi it's only February?! Glad you told me I had no idea!

Hense why I mentioned sun within the next couple of months this year... not once in this post did i mention I was doing this anytime soon

My student flat mate used a spray product called Sun-In and it certainly worked. But that was back in the late 80s! No idea if it’s still available but there may be similar products.

PhoebeBear · 28/02/2020 23:12

@Deux yes I remember that! My mum used that on her hair years ago, we still sell it at my place of work too

Im in Florida... lots of sun

Maybe put the Lemon juice just on some strands, more the fringe/front of your hair area.

Branster · 29/02/2020 08:22

It works to get soft highlights but I wouldn’t reccomended using lemon juice of hair which has been dyed.
Chamomile concentrated tea is much nicer and gentler and it brings out the lighter shades in blonde hair.
Yves Rocher used to do a really good chamomile shampoo which made my hair look amazing, it sort of defined the natural highlights and lowlights if that makes sense and it worked great on dyed blonde hair as well. Sadly, no longer available in the UK.

MrsJoshNavidi · 29/02/2020 11:15

I mean it'll be more than a couple of months until the sun is warm enough and strong enough to bleach your hair, even with lemon juice.
A couple of months from today is still only the end of April. Your going to have to wait several months - until June at least.

Please don't use sun in, Domestos in a little squirt bottle!! Ruined my hair
