Is This Jacket Too Big?

Honest opinions please. Hope the photo shows enough detail. After reading online reviews, I asked my husband to buy me this Barbour Beadnell in a 12- reviews said jacket ran small. Of course, I now regret not trying it on in a shop since it's a rather expensive purchase. I think I like it on me but still have around 11lbs of baby weight to lose? Will it swamp me?

I have a beadnell and love it!

It’s hard to see but it looks like it fits you quite nicely atm. If you lose some weight it may be a bit on the big side but on the other hand you’ll be able to wear a jumper underneath. Most important thing to look at is whether it sits nicely on the shoulders.

Ninkanink · 27/02/2020 11:57

Having looked again, it does bunch up a bit on your arms.

Could you take another photo closer to the mirror, having moved the lamp? You don’t need a full length pic, would be more useful to show yourself closer up, to about knee length. Also if you wear something light underneath it will be easier to see the coat.

Is it roomy now? If so I’d return and get the next size down.

Sorry can't tell photo too dark (and try cropping it).

Ninkanink · 27/02/2020 11:59

In fact I did exactly the same thing when I ordered the coat - ordered a size up because it said fits small and then was swamped by it, so I returned it and got the next size down (my true size) which fits perfectly.

PenelopeFlintstone · 27/02/2020 12:03

I cropped it for you 🙂

It looks too big to me. But I like my coats to sit quite snug.

MikeUniformMike · 27/02/2020 12:12

Too big. Nice coat. Return and get your size.

Have attached what I hope is a better photo. Lighting is a nightmare. The website has sold out of the ten now.

I think it looks too big, especially the arms. Definitely try a 10 if you can find it somewhere else

Kittenbittenmitten · 27/02/2020 12:32

Thanks everyone. I think so too. Too expensive not to be completely satisfied with the fit.

You may be able to find it elsewhere. Quite a lot of retailers carry Barbour. Otherwise it will be back in stock at some point.

niceclock · 27/02/2020 12:44

it looks okay to me, a bit too big, but not so big it looks like you're wearing your brothers' coat. be nice and roomy while you're mucking out the horses, or dragging in hay bales for the cows in winter...

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 27/02/2020 12:44

It’s too big, especially in the arms

Ninkanink · 27/02/2020 13:03

Ask them to email you if it comes back into stock - there may well be people who’ve ordered the 10 who similarly have to return as it’s too big, so you may be in luck fairly soon.

dontgobaconmyheart · 27/02/2020 13:44

It's not hugely oversized but does look big on the arms which always makes things look too big. I'd certainly return it if you're not sure though as it's a lot of money. Also consider whether you'll be wearing thick jumpers under it etc or try it on with one.

Barbour is stocked in loads of places isn't it? I'd Google the style name, I'm sure theres a 10 in stock somewhere.

Kittenbittenmitten · 27/02/2020 16:12

The website had it for an amazing price. Good idea Ninkanink. Hoping there will be a few women who go "that's bloody tight" and return the 10 Grin

Ok, I’ve never seen anyone wearing a neat fitting Barbour.
Mine is a bit too fitted, and I never wear it due to this. The slightly slouchy look does seem to suit them, but this is just my opinion.

It’s not typical city wear is it? Country wear never looks great when overly fitted. I can’t get layers under mine and it does make me regret not going for a size up. It isn’t a work blazer, etc, so doesn’t need to look sleek.

I think you look great, I’d keep it!

Ninkanink · 28/02/2020 12:39

It depends on what you wear it for - I’m not rural and don’t spend hours outside walking dogs or similar, so I don’t need to layer up with gilets, thick jumpers etc. I don’t mean I wear it skin tight, just not looking way too big for me, bunched up and over long on arms or oversized on shoulders. It sits the way any other outdoorsy coat would sit. Room enough for a jumper.

Miseryisabutterfly · 29/02/2020 10:22

I think if you were wearing it with jeans/trousers it would look fine. Nice to have some room for big jumpers under.

nzeire · 29/02/2020 11:49

I think it looks perfect! I don’t like feeling constricted by jackets.
