Colouring hair at home

A few weeks ago somebody recommended getting professional loreal hair colour -on another thread.
I'm getting less time to go to the salon so wanted to ask if you can get aveda colour to use at home. Has anybody bought and used at home?

Not quite what you asked but I love Daniel Field Watercolour for home hair dye to cover greys (does not lighten hair), does not damage hair so completely saved my over-dyed hair!

I've used the home dye before but didn't really cover my greys. I used to live near the salon and the salon dye was excellent.

Do you live near a Sally's - it's a kind of hair wholesaler but general public can go in.

If not I recommend clairol root touch up - 100% grey coverage.

I do live near a Sallys. What should I be looking for?

It depends what is it you want to do to your hair? Lighten/ Darken/ just roots?

Make a note of the number of your shade (normally on regular at home box dyes) and bring it with you.

I have dark brown hair and I've used darkest brown in L'Oréal dye. I want to cover grey roots. My hair grows very quickly so I can spot grey roots and even grey baby hairs 3 weeks after the salon has dyed my hair

I’ve never seen Aveda colour in Sally’s. I go to an Aveda salon, and my hairdresser recommended using Wella Koleston Perfect. She told me which shade number, and the Sally’s assistants helped me - I use a mix of two colours, which need to be blended with peroxide, so 15ml of each colour, to 30ml of peroxide. I bought a set with a tint bowl, brush, and a tail comb the first time, plus a pack of disposable gloves.
