Age 49- is this dress too short?

It’s not as short as this on me, more like mid thigh. I’m size 10 , would wear with heels and black tights. I do like it and it’s beautifully made , just having a wobble.

I don’t think it’s a question of age, it’s a question of taste. I’m 25 and wouldn’t wear it. Not because I think that I’m too old, just because I just don’t like it. If you like it then that’s all that really matters.

Meme05 · 23/02/2020 14:23

Of course not, you’re only showing a little leg and even then in black tights.

DownToTheSeaAgain · 23/02/2020 14:23

If you like it wear it. It's as simple as that.

Musicalmistress · 23/02/2020 14:24

I like it but what's more important is... do you like it? Does it make you feel good? Those are more important than age IMO 🙂

damnthatanxiety · 23/02/2020 14:25

It's fine. It's not clingy or booby so no risk of looking like mutton.

Scabetty · 23/02/2020 14:27

If you have the legs wear it

Tempnamelady · 23/02/2020 14:28

I do like it, it’s quite classic, like a tuxedo. I don’t wear many dresses as like quite plain tailored things. I think I’ll try it on again and decide for sure.

Love it! Wear whatever makes you feel beautiful

ShinyRuby · 23/02/2020 14:31

It's lovely. I'm a similar age & would go with thick 80/100 denier black tights & black ankle boots with a moderate heel.

lekkerkroketje · 23/02/2020 14:35

I had one like that and bizarrely it actually looked really frumpy. Sort of cheap waitress uniform in the type of seaside cafe that sells fish and chips to coach parties. If you have tits, it'll strain and gape and the padded shoulders will make you look really wide, and if you have hips the wrap skirt will make your arse look massive. Sorry op, a no from me! And not because of your age!

Floisme · 23/02/2020 14:35

The question I always ask, regardless of age is, will you be forever tugging it down?

Because that never looks good - and I see a lot of young women doing it too.

If not then go for it.

Tempnamelady · 23/02/2020 14:36

@ShinyRuby, I know what you mean but I tend to find that ankle boots make my legs look a bit ‘stumpy’, they are a decent shape and size but just not very long ......

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/02/2020 14:37

I'm 42 and I'd wear it, actually, I might buy it.

Purplecatshopaholic · 23/02/2020 14:39

I love it, it’s timeless and elegant. If you have the legs for it, go for it!

TwentyViginti · 23/02/2020 14:39

Nothing to do with age, but I do think it looks like some sort of uniform that someone has shortened.

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/02/2020 14:40

I also have not much in the boob or hip department, and at 5 foot, not long legs, good legs though and can manage cleavage with a good bra.
Definitely thick tights though.

mrsradley · 23/02/2020 14:43

I love it . I'm 48 next week , size 12 but legs best feature so it would suit me. Where's it from!?

WanderingTrolley1 · 23/02/2020 14:45

I’m 42 and wouldn’t wear it. I don’t like the shoulder pads and would have too much boob on display!

goingoverground · 23/02/2020 14:46

Have you tried sitting in it and bending down to pick things up? My personal bugbear is how many so called "dresses" are unwearable without being at risk of flashing your knickers.

Tempnamelady · 23/02/2020 14:50

@mrsradley , the Kooples, on Sale at £149 but there’s a code for another 15% off. Size wise I ordered the 1 which they said was a size 10 , no chance! It fastened but my boobs were hanging out. I’ve got the 2 upstairs , I’m just too lazy to put tights on and try it on ..... mixed opinions which is always good and thanks for comments!

FlappingTurtle · 23/02/2020 14:51

Sounds like it would suit you very well.

At the risk of being leg-ist, I think the shape of the legs is the main factor in deciding whether or not to wear a short skirt. So there are plenty of teenagers who should not wear that, and plenty of fiftysomethings who could. (And vice versa, obviously!)

ZoeandChandon · 23/02/2020 14:56

For me it would be about colour rather than my age or length, I got to 40 and realised I looked drained in black and that would age me more than the style.

LoveBeingAMum555 · 23/02/2020 16:53

I am 48 and actually think that you can wear just about anything if it fits well, suits your shape and there isn't too much flesh on display. Agree with the comment about sitting down and moving about to see if you still feel OK. If you love it and feel good in it go for it!

dottiedodah · 23/02/2020 17:27

If you are a size 10 with good legs then go for it! If you like it and it suits you no probs .There is such a fuss about age ,but surely your figure is the most important thing here? Wear With Aplomb I say!

LilyJade · 23/02/2020 18:22

I would wear it with opaques & my flat otk boots but then I'm a curvy size 12-14.
