This is absolutely doing my head in (literally) - what can I do / use? Hopefully someone has some advice...

I have tried:
Head and shoulders
Normal shampoo
Coal tar shampoo
Another type of medical shampoo from the pharmacy
Steroid lotion from doctors
Coconut oil
Veg oil
Coal tar 'cream'

It is itchy, flakes onto my shoulders and drives me batty. It's quite a big patch at the back of my head. Gets worse or slightly less worse but never, ever goes awaySad

Does anyone have any advice for how to get rid of this please?? Thank you in advance!

Have you tried Nizarol shampoo?
Or any shampoo with ketoconazole, you have to let it sit on you head for 5 mins.

Castor oil is good left on over night.
Or drench your head in organic cider vinegar.
Tea tree oil is good for scalp conditions if you are not allergic to it.

Believe it or not, I've found the purple shampoos really work for me and don't flare up my scalp.

Complete fluke I tell you Smile

I used them once a week to keep my blonde nice and blonde and v quickly realised my scalp was the best after I used them.

So strange I know but might be worth a try if you're at a loss. I feel your pain it's bloody horrible having an itchy head.

I use the bleach London silver shampoo and it works well for me. I use two other shampoos on rotation for the rest of the week - the bleach London live forever and a garnier oat milk one.

Hope this helps and I'm sorry if it doesn't work for you OP.

Ps if you do find it works but your hands go purple after using them, give them a good wash with toothpaste after - totally gets rid of the purple.

Good luck!

I have found Sudocreme overnight on scaley patches works well

Girlintheframe · 21/02/2020 20:31

I have scalp psoriasis too. Best thing I've found is T gel. I leave it on for a good 10 mins. Usually once is enough but sometimes I have to do a 2nd application a few days later. That and Betnovate scalp lotion from the dr.

mishmash1983 · 21/02/2020 20:31

I've just started using (after going through the same list as you) body shop ginger shampoo. It has very good reviews. I've only used it 3 times so far so can't really comment on its effectiveness

Glitterb · 21/02/2020 20:47

At the moment I am using a mix of Nizarol and baby shampoo...seems to be working! I used to use T gel but it started making my scalp sore so I’m giving that a break

Head and shoulders itchy scalp is good but it leaves a horrible residue on my hair so i stopped using that!

I have some brilliant cream from the doctors but it is really waxy so I struggle to put it on the areas you can see!

myidentitymycrisis · 21/02/2020 20:52

I have distinct scaly lumps on my scalp but they don't itch, is it scalp psoriasis ?

@mishmash1983 I'm also currently trying ginger shampoo but early days. Mine is often around the hair line and also on my crown. i pick at it like mad. I believe it is triggered by stress

There is a head of shoulders with selenium in - this is the magic ingredient. Nothing beats Selsun which has it too but seems to have been discontinued. Order the selenium H and S online - better than all the ones you list, body shop ginger and anything else I have tried.

Moisturise olive oil into your scalp, comb through to get rid of the flakes of skin and leave over night. Repeat as necessary. Get Ketoconazole shampoo, use twice weekly. I was advised this from my dermatologist about 4 weeks ago and the difference in my scalp is amazing

BrokenBrit · 21/02/2020 21:07

T gel was the only thing that worked for me.

hairclinicaltricho · 21/02/2020 21:55

zinc pyrithione.

Scabetty · 21/02/2020 23:17

I use T gel but my friend’s GP prescribed her something that cleared a huge patch she had had for a long time.

DS suffers terribly.

Jason's dandruff shampoo from Holland and Barrett is very good.
Body Shop ginger shampoo.
Elvive orange and black dandruff shampoo
The intensive Head and Shoulders.
At the moment we are having some success with Aveeno baby shampoo.

We have a cycle which lasts about 2 years of all the above plus Nizoral and Tgel. They all work but only for a limited time so then we move on to the next one.

goldenorbspider · 21/02/2020 23:32

Another one for Nizoral! Tried everything.

wickedfairy · 22/02/2020 09:20

Wow - thanks so much for the messages!

Nizoral was the shampoo I have already tried, and bentovate was the lotion! Couldn't remember the names yesterday when I was at work.

It's so annoying - I wear lots of black, so the flakes are really obvious.

I have ordered a natural shampoo bar, made with goats milk?! which is apparently supposed to be good for irritation. I'm sure it won't work, because nothing else has, but it is worth a try. Maybe the additives in normal shampoo are irritants. Will post back once I've tried it.

Please keep the suggestions coming though - I have a feeling I'll still need to try (unsuccessfully probably) more things Sad

Thank you for all the advice!
