Dark grey scarf with a light grey coat?

My gut says no but I thought I would check with the experts.

I have to go to a smart event tomorrow.
I usually live in my biker jacket and either an oversized blanket scarf (from ASOS) or my favourite cashmere dark grey scarf.

I feel like my biker jacket is to casual for the event though and I’m going to have to wear my (only) smart coat, as a lot of the event is going to be outside so a smart coat is essential.

My coat is a military style double breasted coat, it’s very open at the neck and upper chest area so I definitely think I will need a scarf since it’s so cold at the moment.

I would probably want to wear it wrapped around my neck and the crossed over and the front and tucked into the coat, iykwim.

What do the S&B experts think, can I wear a light grey coat and a dark grey scarf without it looking clashy and awful?

Of course. I can't see anything wrong with that combo.

They are both grey. So I cannot see the issue. If you want to buy a new scarf then do so but what you are proposoing sounds ok to me. However I am addicted to scarves and two drawers full of them! Sometimes I go with a brighter colour with grey and sometimes choose the scarf to tone with what I am wearing under the coat. I am very fond of my lighter grey cashmere scarf with a very dark grey black bear runnning the full length of it. Not that most people can see its a bear. Its surprising what you can find in Nice, France when on holiday!

I can't see how that could possibly clash (but I think scarves and coats are pretty much mix and match, so what would I know 🤷‍♀️)

I tried it on earlier and was worried it was too grey.

Can't see why it would be a problem, I mix and match different shades of grey all the time, it's only a jarring (to me) look if they're both distinctively patterned or textured otherwise have at it. I have a grey scarf similar to the one in the picture posted above but a little darker and with a hint of metallic that I wear with everything a pale grey coat, looks fine.
