Joggers/harem pants, can they look stylish?!

Hello all!
Fed up wearing skinny jeans all the time. I’m a sahp to a 2 year old and wondering if it’s ever possible to wear joggers or harem pants and actually look stylish and not like you can’t be bothered making any effort and have just rolled out of bed?!
Thank you all experts! Flowers

I would like to know this too! I'm on mat leave and looking for skinny jeans alternatives, but don't like leggings. Would love to see some examples of what people wear harems/joggers with and which ones are best.

sweetheart · 19/02/2020 11:36

I think they can but not in this weather - I think it needs to be spring / summer so they can be worn with sandles / pumps and a denim jacket type look.

BeansOnToast123 · 19/02/2020 12:10

@givememarmite I agree about leggings, I don’t like them either! I always seem to be pulling them up!

I've ditched all my skinny Jean's for primark's leggings, the five pound ones. They're thick, warm and dont need pulling up.
Will look into joggers as I'm a cleaner and the skinny Jean's were always either too tight or needed pulling up!

BinkySodPlop · 19/02/2020 12:27

Next used to do some quite smart harem pants: quite thick with nice structured pleats which hung well - I wore them to the office with heeled ankle boots and tunics. I have also worn them at festivals with wellies and anoraks and they've done duty as pj bottoms in an emergency.

AhoyMrBeaver · 19/02/2020 12:28

I agree, they're much more stylish with Spring/Summer clothes and shoes. I have some reasonable ones with cargo pockets from Primark that drape nicely, but it's not warm enough yet.

MiniMum97 · 19/02/2020 12:32

I have hush farms (although o would recommend as I think the quality is poor for he price) and wear them with Bailey bow uggs and a vest top and short jumper in the winter. Looks good imo! Suits me anyway. Although I know uggs are a controversial subject on here!

BeansOnToast123 · 19/02/2020 12:33

Those are the leggings I’ve got, the shape ones from primark. I’m constantly pulling them up or doing a sort of lunge whilst pushing the pram Blush
Ooo I hadn’t thought of teaming joggers/harem with a denim jacket, I bet that looks nice. Can you wear with sandals?

I’m also bored of skinnies and question how flattering they are on me these days. Plus fed up of constantly yanking them up!

I recently invested in some Lucy & Yak ‘Alexa’ trousers, actually after seeing someone else wearing them on the ‘outfit of the day’ thread on here and thinking they looked good. Photos attached. They make a nice alternative to skinny jeans but are still casual enough for mum life. I think they go fine with trainers but should go well with sandals too in summer.

I also have Topshop ‘mom’ jeans which I love (they don’t slide down).

I don’t have harems but someone on the outfit of the day thread has some and I remember thinking she looked good in them

I've been wearing my harems with high tops and thermal leggings underneath. I do prefer them in summer as I think they lend themselves better so a summer look with a cami or T-shirt.

Settlersofcatan · 19/02/2020 13:35

Only if you're slim, I think. Sadly for me as I am not!

Canapes · 19/02/2020 13:35

Harems, possibly. Joggers, no, never.

KiteflyingKat · 19/02/2020 13:48

@Ellapaella I’m sure it was you who I thought looked good in the harems Grin

RuggyPeg · 19/02/2020 14:20

Sainsbury's have a gorgeous pair of charcoal jogger/harem hybrids in a lovely, luxury material that makes them feel much smarter than any others on the market. They are cheap and super comfy too, as a bonus. I have several pairs and wear them for all kinds of things. tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/p/Grey-Cuff-Ankle-Jogger/134566181-Grey?searchTerm=:newArrivals&searchProduct=

Ellapaella · 19/02/2020 14:24

@KiteflyingKat yes I've been wearing mine quite a bit recently with jumpers and high tops. I'm ordering of those L&Y ones for the spring as I love the look on you.

BeansOnToast123 · 19/02/2020 14:40

Those Lucy and yak are lovely! Are they online available to buy online or do they sell in shops too?

I love joggers particularly in this weather as they are super cosy

I have these from Next and can dress up for work or down at the weekends . And best of all they don't need ironing .

Got mine online lucyandyak.com/products/alexa-in-midnight-black-high-waisted-trousers

They do other colours too

Think there’s a shop in Brighton, not sure where else

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 20/02/2020 19:29

My harems are dark grey and look good with a cosy, loose roll neck jumper in black. That looks smart. Unfortunately the only shoes I have that go are coral sneakers but I think short brown ankle boots might look good ?

Annasgirl · 20/02/2020 20:40

Not sure about Harem pants - I hate them. However, I wear running pants every day. My current style icon for the look is Donna Air in the Split season 2 - she looks mega stylish in joggers, a top and a fab coat.

Also look on Pinterest - I have a full board of stylish jogger outfits for Winter, Spring and Summer. Cotton joggers look great at ankle length with white Stan Smiths; black or coloured lycra running pants look best with black runners, although I also wear mine with Hunter wellies on a rainy day or snow day and with hiking boots and wool socks on cold winter days when runners would look daft.

morrisseysquif · 20/02/2020 20:53

I wear velvet jogger with a smart ish top to go out, you have to experiment with the right thing to get the look right.

I also have the primark navy £5 slim joggers in a sweatshirt material which I wear with a big snuggly jumper and hi top converse.

In the summer I wear them with a boxy tee shirt and flip flops.

I agree with @Annasgirl, Donna Air rocks that look!

morrisseysquif · 20/02/2020 21:20

Definitely @BeansOnToast123 !

They look great with a denim jacket or a denim shirt

They also look good with a wedge open toe mule sandal

Lily193 · 20/02/2020 21:37

I've never seen anyone look good in harems. Good quality, well cut jogger style trousers can look good with lots of different types of footwear as long as you have the style to carry it off.

BeansOnToast123 · 21/02/2020 07:02

I think I’m going to try them in the spring/summer with some trainers that sandals, a t shirt or cami and denim jacket. I don’t think I’d be able to pull them off on winter with ankle boots.
Trying to find pics of Donna air in them but can’t seem to find any
