How to pick a new hairstyle

How do you pick a new hairstyle?
My hair comes down to halfway between my shoulders and elbows and is very bleurgh. It's not been cut in ages but I'm going back to work after maternity leave in a couple of weeks (starting a new job) and am getting a haircut this week.

I'd like a more interesting haircut but I'm not very good with doing anything to my hair, plus mornings will be rushed with getting DD to nursery and then getting to work so needs to be easy. But I don't have the nerve to do anything different, in case it doesn't suit me and looks awful!

How do you pick a new hairstyle and how do you then get the nerve to go through with it?

I spend ages looking at Pinterest to choose. I have a haircut board and pin anything I like the look of, and gradually narrow it down. Then I think about whether my hair/face type/shape look anything like the photos and try to work out if they would work on me. Then I show the hairdresser my favourite pic and pray!

My hair is mid brown and very fine, and I’ve recently had it bobbed with a fringe. It took me a while to decide that I liked it after it was done - I needed to get used to it! But I love it now.
