What do you wear to fly?

And you don’t look like a total scruff. Grin
I’ve got a long haul flight coming up and I want to be comfy but not look as scruffy as I have in the past (joggers, hoodie).

Usually for long haul i wear my all saints long grey cardigan, its huge and doubles as a blanket! I usually wear jeans but nothing too tight around the waist, i always have to take my shoes off so wear nice trainers i can take off quickly.

I’ve never been stopped.
Layers. Comfortable underwear. Leggings and long t shirt.
Tunic. Usually lightweight scarf with brooch to dress it up on arrival.
Ankle boots or leather pumps depending on destination. Take hotel slippers for the plane.
Big leather carry on. Small handbag with documents.

Chat to security staff. Ask if they want you to take your shoes off. Use fast check security lanes.

This weather , a large pair of brown trousers 👖 Grin

Ihatesundays · 16/02/2020 08:37

@loubeale luckily it’s not today

I actually like the idea of leggings and a dress. Wouldn’t have thought of that. Means I can wear the dress on hols too. Less heavy than joggers.

Middle aged women must be a type for searching then!

I flew last week, wearing a light maxi dress with a ruched elastic bodice, stretchy crop top instead of a bra, and Saltwater sandals. I was too hot at the start point of my flight for anything more suitable for British weather, but with a zip up hoodie in my bag to put on as we landed, I was actually not at all cold. Soft and unrestrictive all the way for me.

Ihatesundays · 16/02/2020 09:26

Although I can’t find a suitable dress online. Wonder if it’s too early to be looking

ginfirdinner, I'm adept at keeping clothing off the floor, and sliding the straps off is quicker than undergoing trousers or lifting up a dress and lowering leggings. This has become my ideal lounge attire!

I'm always searched on my way out of Manchester airport and never in any other. No idea why. I've wondered if it's because I have the surname of a notorious gang and provos-connected family in that area, but so do a lot of people. It's a common Irish name. Especially, surely, going through Manchester airport.

I was searched 5 times last year, all departing from Manchester!

everyrosehasathorn · 16/02/2020 09:49

Joggers and hoodies, every time. I even got bumped up to business class while doing a bag drop so they didn’t think I looked scruffy Grin I always freeze in planes so lots of layers as well.

Lojoh · 16/02/2020 09:58

And to answer the question - for anything over 4 hours I wear:

Comfy shortie knickers that don't ride up. Bralette. Super long vest that covers my bum. Supersoft jeggings - the type that are actually just thick leggings with a vague denim print. Compression socks. Plain pull on sock trainers. A loose but 'sharp' silk top. A long down jacket that rolls up. Giant, preposterous, sunnies. A beanie.

I am a cliche Grin but it's honestly the ultimate long haul outfit. So comfortable, and you can go straight to a restaurant if you need to. Just take off the beanie!

Anything that doesn't set off the scanners.
I don't want to be scanned.

Ihatesundays · 16/02/2020 10:04

I’ve never owned a bralette. I may investigate

I usually wear yoga pants from hush, a cami, maybe a loose top and then a large wrap over my shoulders which doubles up as a blanket.

If you can watch the first episode of The Split series 2, you will see Donna Air give a master class in how to wear leggings, trainers and a lightweight wool coat and look a million dollars.
