How much do you normally pay to get your watch battery changed?

Hello.. just a quick question really. I had a battery changed yesterday, in a watch I’ve had for years. Under £100 but I like to wear instead of my Apple Watch on days off. One shop wanted £16 the other was the grand total of £2.50 and watch is working perfectly fine. Wondering how much you usually pay for a standard watch battery? Thanks Smile

About £2.50, unless the watch needs specialist tools.

I have an everlasting deal from F Hinds - I think it was a tenner, and it covers as many batteries as you need on that particular watch ad infinitum. I've had the watch 20 years and the policy for four, and I'm already quids in.

That's what scares me! I very much doubt mine will be going off to Tag!

£5

HunterHearstHelmsley · 13/02/2020 12:14

About £4

They wanted something like £90 for mine. My usual jeweller said he’d do it for £5 if it was easy £10 if it was hard Grin

I have a Tag link watch and it just cost me £65 for a new battery and pressure test at Debenhams. Next time it needs one I think I’ll bite the bullet and send it to Tag for a service. It’s 12 years old so could do with one I think.

It’s definitely a big consideration when you get a pricey watch. Most high street jewellers won’t touch it and the higher end ones send it off rather than doing it on the spot.

£3.50 from an independent jewellers.

Oldraver · 13/02/2020 20:07

£10 at an independant jewellers for a Longines watch, this was last week.

A cheapy watch I would take to the man with the little hut of the cobblers

Fluffymule · 13/02/2020 20:11

I had batteries replaced in two watches a few weeks ago at the local independent jewellers in town. Was charged £10 per watch.

maryboleyn · 13/02/2020 20:18

we had to send watches off to be resealed and pressure tested usually with 12 month guarantee. ranging from £45 for Armani DKNY etc to £95 for Longines/Tag etc. We werent allowed to do it instore (despite having training) as it was higher profit margin. Company was charged £17.50 by watch tech ( I used to work for Goldsmiths )

I pay a fiver and he uses Japanese battery and they last about 5 year's or on other watch I get them from Poundland in a multi pack and they last a few years.

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 14/02/2020 01:20

I used to work for h Samuel and I think we charged around £8, but we had to be really clear that watches would no longer be waterproof.

chocolatespiders · 14/02/2020 01:23

Nothing - Swatch watch batteries are free!

Go to timpsons

You pay once and you can go back over the lifetime of the watch
