Daily SPF recommendations

Inspired by some threads on this board, and recently turning 30, I have decided to invest in looking less scruffy and I think skincare is a big area I can improve upon.
Pretty much everywhere recommends a daily SPF as THE MOST IMPORTANT step but can anyone tell me what products they use for this?
I use Clarins UV plus SPF 50 for holidays and out all day in the summer, but it feels a bit much in the other seasons/when in the office all day and also leaves a bit of a white layer.
I don't wear foundation, though I tried the Beauty Pie oil free tinted SPF 20 moisturiser but found it very drying. So a plain moisturiser with SPF is my preference, saves trying to get a colour match. Their Japanfusion range really works for my skin (two weeks in) so something light but moisturising like that would probably be best?
In terms of skin type I am half Asian so I often get dry forehead/cheeks but can be quite oily and breakout often too.

I’m following as I need to find a good spf too

Karmatime · 10/02/2020 07:16

The Beauty Pie spf 25 is really lightweight and not chalky. I do need to use a moisturiser first though as I’ve got quite dry skin. If you want an all in one I love the Olay Regenerist spf 30 in the red tube, not cheap but often on offer in Boots and Superdrug.

roobledoo · 10/02/2020 07:23

La Roche posay SPF 50 is perfect for everyday - really lightweight so you can layer it over moisturiser and under make up. I use this everyday and love it

Sammi38 · 10/02/2020 07:24

I’ve used many different spfs, the one I’ve found the best and doesn’t break me out is the Kiehls ultra light daily defence spf50.

bettybea · 10/02/2020 07:57

The Clinique ones tend to be good. I use the tinted moisture surge one but have previously used city block and the plain one and they've been great on my combination skin.

I used to use the Body Shop multi defence essence which was amazing but now out of stock everywhere. I found Avene and LRP too greasy and sticky.

Nadeshka · 10/02/2020 10:07

Definitely interesting to see these choices, I was expecting there to be more SPF15/30 products for a daily product? I guess because I only use above 30 outside the UK as I don't burn easily.
Is the RP one this - La Roche-Posay Anthelios Anti-Shine Sun Cream Gel SPF50+ ?
I'm intrigued by it's mattifying properties but don't want it to be too drying.
I'm waiting for my beautypie limit to reset this month (annoyed I wasted it on that tinted one) so will try something else from this list in the meantime. Will see what is on offer from these or I can redeem some boots points for!

I use Boots No7 protect & perfect day cream spf15.

Smellslikebiscuits · 10/02/2020 13:48

@Nadeshka I like the LRP one and the LRP tinted Shaka fluids in the rectangular bottle.
Though I really didn’t like the tinted anti-shine cream.

Smellslikebiscuits · 10/02/2020 13:49

Should say *I like that LRP one and...

Girlintheframe · 10/02/2020 14:13

I second the la Roche posay 50+ It's really light and leaves no chalky film.
I have combination skin too and often find sunscreens very greasy which means my make up slides off. This one is perfect.

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 10/02/2020 16:41

Another vote for the LRP. It’s the best sunscreen I’ve ever used and I’ve tried them all.

Tried Biore watery essence which sat nicely but made me a grease ball by lunch. I’m exceptionally oily though so if you’re not it could be perfect for you.

AuntieMarys · 10/02/2020 16:44

Dermalogica age smart factor 50 moisturiser for me. Light.

whymewhyme · 10/02/2020 16:51

La roche possay!!!!!

Bananaman123 · 10/02/2020 19:51

I havempily skin and find a lot of spfs are too heavy feeling. I like tge body shop one and recently bought Cosrx fro yesstyle which is bloody amazing!

Bananaman123 · 10/02/2020 19:52

Have oily

Zeldaaa · 10/02/2020 20:07

I’m currently using and loving Heliocare 360° Sun Protection Gel Oil-Free SPF 50. I have previously also used la Roche posey Shaka fluid and rare that as well.

waddlingfrog · 10/02/2020 20:34

I also really rate the La Roche Possay spf 50 too

Apileofballyhoo · 10/02/2020 20:40

To block sufficient UVA rays, which are the ageing ones, spf 30 is better. And a moisturiser isn't going to provide enough coverage. SPF rating is only for UVB - the tanning/burning rays - and the UVA are active all year round unlike UVB. You need broad spectrum to block both and the UVA part of the screen is usually something like a third of the uvb defence. If I have the figures right.

MoltoAgitato · 10/02/2020 20:48

Biore Aqua Resist SPF 50 as recommended on here. Available on Amazon; I put it on over moisturiser but under makeup.

Nadeshka · 10/02/2020 22:04

Lots of people vouching for La Roche Posay and it's not too pricey plus on 3 for 2 at boots so I've gotten the anti shine one and the Shaka tinted one too. Fingers crossed!

I stopped into Kiehl's today and tried theirs. They had one for oily skin I found too drying, but I actually quite liked their tinted one. However my train came before I could convince myself to spend the money (£38 for 60ml).

Been doing some reading up from another thread on SPF, some amazing detail there! Thanks for the suggestions, I may yet be trying the others if LRP doesn't work out.

EltaMD UV clear spf 46 it’s good for acne prone/sensitive/oily skin. My skin is very sensitive and I actually find it calms my skin when I use it! It as some zinc in too which is supposedly good but can’t remember what reason for Grin it’s pricey but has lasted me ages and ages

Honeybee85 · 11/02/2020 14:13

La Roche Posay is very good.

I love Biore Watery Gel too!
