Dr Martens- how to wear?

I love DMs. However, I’m never quite sure what to wear with them. I’m middle aged and a bit stumpy.
Jeans? Dresses? I used to love a dress with DMs- can I still do this now I’m an aged crone? I don’t want to look tragic. Just comfy.

I have to force myself to wear shoes other than my DMs. I love them so. I have the Pascal which required no breaking in whatsoever.

I wear them with skinny jeans (turned up) and coated/leather look skinnies. I also wear them with dresses of all lengths and long skirts.

I also wear the Rosa safety DMs for work and dog walking. I love them, but bloody hell, they took a LOT of breaking in.

Glitter pascals, wear them with everything... Literally everything. Yes to dresses! One pair is black glitter and the other pair is pastel rainbow glitter, I've never owned shoes which are so versatile and make me smile every time I see my feet 😂

MelanieFrontage · 08/02/2020 22:41

This is NO help at all but when I was wearing DMs I wore them with horizontal stripey tights and either a puffball skirt or rah rah skirt.
Topped with a black jacket covered in safety pins and bar towels, jeez I must have looked horrendous 😂
To top the look off I used to rag roll my hair with newspaper!!!

slipperyeel · 08/02/2020 23:11

I’ve never had to break DMs in, maybe I have weird feet but they’ve always been comfortable from the start

Wearywithteens have you got the heeled Clemency DM's?

thedevilinablackdress · 09/02/2020 08:47

I think that sounds splendid Melanie

@MelanieFrontage that look sounds great and is evocative of Paula Yates.

I am size 16. I live in my DM's until birkies and trainers weather comes.

I wear skinny jeans, tapered trousers, skirts and dresses with mine. Basically anything. I'm lumpier than I'd like but have no willpower to change that at the moment so I wear what feels comfortable.

idontlike789 · 09/02/2020 11:03

Get a pair , they last for years . I was sick of spending money on cheap boots to only last a couple of months . I bought a pair last winter and after a bit of wearing in they are now so comfy and look just as new and are great with dresses/ jeans anything .

motortroll · 09/02/2020 11:10

I'm 42. I have the tall fold over ones I wear them with skinny jeans and leggings mostly. I usually wear them folded up rather than down. My kids hate me 🤣

Ruddle91 · 09/02/2020 11:38

I have black knee high, green vintage ones, purple vintage ones. My work is pretty casual so I match the coloured ones to my dress or top at work 🤣. The black ones add a twist to plain black dresses or crazy coloured ones. I also have loads of tattoos and crazy hair so I'm very "alternative" looking anyway. The most comments I get are about how awesome my boots are by folks who're older who had years ago.

IJustWantToWearDungarees · 09/02/2020 11:40

I am 44 and have eight pairs. It's turning into a bit of an addiction. I wear mine with:

Slim straight jeans folded just to the top of the boot, with a baggy jumper, top or tshirt.

Knee-length jersey (Seasalt, Fat Face-style) dresses with bright tights (love a mustard-colour).

Dungarees (although I do realise this is an acquired taste!).

Posh dress (think crushed velvet or similar) with sparkly or classic boots for posh dos.

EngagedAgain · 09/02/2020 14:38

@Wearywithteens, thanks, and I will with the other suggestions try to gather a plan! Maybe I should revert to my natural mis matched style that I've been trying for years to change! I'm not a dress/skirt person except in summer.

HaudMaDug · 09/02/2020 14:51

Doc's are perfect attire for any age or size. I have various pairs, boots and shoes and I wear them with everything. (I'm 45, 5'2" and size 6
Your Doc's will carry you even if you lack confidence get them on and wear with pride.

Chocolateteabag · 09/02/2020 17:47

43 here - I have brown Serena boots (fur lined ones) and they required no breaking in at all! I wear them with skinny/straight leg jeans turned up, with tights & contrast socks with skirts

Thinking about getting a pair of the Leonore Chelsea boots...
