Bra for low cut dress and small chest?

nonsensicalmess · 04/02/2020 12:40

I've bought the dress below for a wedding - it fit beautifully in the skirt part but the top was a bit gapey in the sides and the shoulders were a bit low so I've had it professionally altered.
Wearing my usual bras under it you can still see a bit of bra from the side. I'd like a bra suitable for a deep neckline that's not full cup coverage so you can't see it as much from the side if that makes sense?! If it gave my small chest a bit of a boost then all the better Grin Only one I've seen that fits the bill is a wonder bra one but it's £40 and might only get used once or twice so a cheaper alternative would be fab.

Any suggestions?

A plunge style? What size?

nonsensicalmess · 04/02/2020 13:48

Yep, plunge and not too full a cup. Size 36A

StrawberryPi · 04/02/2020 13:58

Can we see a picture of it on you?

dementedpixie · 04/02/2020 14:15

Ars you sure about size? What dress size are you? 'A' cup means only 1 inch between under and over bust measurement.

nonsensicalmess · 04/02/2020 14:25

Yes I'm sure about size! Size 36A is a real size Smile

I know its a real size but is it your correct size? Lots of women are measured incorrectly (adding extra inches to the back size) and may need a smaller back and larger cup

nonsensicalmess · 04/02/2020 14:58

Yes, again, it's my size thanks! I'm only after plunge bra recommendations.....

Ah, wonderbra was going to be my suggestion. I've got a plunge bra from there thats low coverage.

I would second looking at the boob or bust method though and trying out the size they recommend - you'll probably find you have a lot more bra options available to you then (I was wearing a 34AA and now wear a 30DD and can buy bras without spongebob on - hurrah!).

Spam88 · 04/02/2020 15:06

Don't suppose you're near a wonderbra outlet..? They have either 30 or 40% off.

nonsensicalmess · 04/02/2020 15:18

Thanks @Spam88 - I have been measured several times and a 36A does fit me well, but I'll look at that method too.

No outlet near me unfortunately! I might just end up having to fork out for it Smile

Can't help with the bra recommendedations as I'm looking for one myself but I've just bought the same dress in the same colour but with long sleeves and had the same issues with the shoulders - were the alterations you had a lot of work and did it affect the embroidery at the shoulder seam?

I was going to send the dress back because I didn't think alterations would work but now I have hope.

nonsensicalmess · 04/02/2020 18:38

Hi @MistressWeatherwax1 - the seamstress removed the sleeves and re-stitched. I also had it taken it at the sides a bit. Didn't seem to be too much work (compared to bridesmaids dresses etc I've had altered in the past!) and no obvious sign of it.

Can I ask how you're styling it - colour shoes etc? I'm torn between nude or a bright burst of pink/orange!

@nonsensicalmess thanks! I'm gonna keep it and take it to get altered. I'm going for strappy pale gold sandals with mine.

nonsensicalmess · 04/02/2020 20:46

Ooohh gold sounds lovely! Another colour for me to consider Grin

@nonsensicalmess no recommendations but that it a lovely dress! I am small chested too and I have the same gaping problem with clothing. Hope you find something and enjoy the wedding

nonsensicalmess · 04/02/2020 21:00

Thank you @scotlandtobali ! Yes, it's very annoying when the clothing fits you elsewhere but the bust is way too big Sad

WellTidy · 04/02/2020 21:05

That dress is gorgeous. Where did you buy it please?

BigButtons · 05/02/2020 07:02

I often have this problem. I used to think I was a 34b. Turns out I am a 30 d. I have a couple of dresses that fit beautifuly on the waist and hips but gape on top.

Branster · 05/02/2020 07:13

What a lovely dress! For the purpose of one wear out of it, have you tried fixing the inside of the v line to the bra on the inside with double sided tit tape?

nonsensicalmess · 05/02/2020 07:50

No I haven't bran - might be worth a go!

To all those asking - it's ASOS design Smile

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 08/02/2020 03:55

Try fenty savage
Great prices too

mnthrowaway202020 · 08/02/2020 03:58

Why don’t you link to the wonderbra you like so we have a point of reference to find something similar?

mnthrowaway202020 · 08/02/2020 03:58

Also would nipple covers or a stick on bra be an option?

mnthrowaway202020 · 08/02/2020 04:07

Okay, think I’ve figured out which bra you want, found a few similar options:

also comes in nude if they don’t have your size
