Shampoo Bar: 1 week in and I look like Stig of the Dump

I made the switch to bar shampoo and conditioner last week and my hair looks and feels disgusting! the roots are covered in a greasy, waxy residue. I tried the apple cider vinegar wash and now i also have a subtle chip shop aroma.

I've read about this supposed 'transition' period, but this sounds like marketing crap to keep you using the products, AIBU or does the bar suddenly and miraculously stop making your hair look like shit? or am i doing something wrong/using a crap bar?

Any experiences/advice welcome!

Try not using the conditioner bar. I’ve found I don’t need conditioner at all since switching to solid shampoo.

I like lush seanik or shine on the best for my hair.

I use a Lush bar and use a spray in conditioner.

My hair was exactly the same OP. Horrid residue feeling. I used Lush Coconut Rice or something, which had a ridiculous bright pink half and a dried flower stuck in it.

I lasted just over a week then binned it. Transition period indeed. I'd been using sulfate and silicone free beforehand so it wasnt due to pre-bar build up anyway.

The Gruum bars work great on my hair. I do have fine hair though. I only use conditioner once a week.

Just to update: after another go with the bar shampoo it just coated my hair in even more residue, so I've given up and used some liquid shampoo and conditioner (Maui Moisture or something like that) which has made me relatively presentable again Grin

However, Dh told me his hair is fine with the bars (he rubbed it directly onto his hair), and having checked it he is right! no residue at all and his hair looks clean, so im guessing my shit results are because i have too much hair - its pretty thick at the min as i recently had a baby, although no doubt its due to return to its previous scraggly state fairly soon. So might revisit it when my pregnancy hair has fallen out.

I've tried 2 different types (one from lush and another one off the internet) and both were a bit disappointing. I found I had to rub it directly into my hair as I couldn't get a lather in my hands and I really had to rinse it out well. Sadly I still found it quite unpredictable whether when I dried my hair it would look still wet and greasy at the roots or not...after 2+ months and I've gone back to liquid shampoo again and my hair feels and looks so much nicer. I'm 20 weeks pregnant and remember with my first born my hair was so glossy and grease free when I was pregnant that I imagine the last 2 months my hair would have been even worse if I wasn't pregnant now too!

...Soap bars on the other hand I'm sold on
