What would you wear with these jeans?

I haven’t worn jeans for several years as usually too tight on the bum and too big on the waist. The skinny jean trend passed me by. I recently bought these which fit quite well on the waist (first pic) , in the retailers photos the models wear crop/little bra tops which aren’t going to work for winter! I’ve tried it so far with a thermal bodysuit and could try tucking T-shirt’s in I guess... what does everyone else find works well with these? Still deciding whether to keep them.

I think it looks good as you have styled it in the photo!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 31/01/2020 07:37

Any body suit- usually as thin material add a chunky cardigan knit and some good jewellery to stop it looking frumpy

Otter46 · 31/01/2020 08:41

Thanks, feels funny to buy bodysuits for the first time since the 90s! I’ll keep an eye out for thin t shirts for when it gets warmer.

OP you have a fantastic figure, but sorry- those do you no favours. They might fit on the waist but the fit otherwise doesn't look right at all.

I cant think of much that would go other than what you've got on really. They're so high waisted that there isn't lot you could do other than tuck in a tight fitting top or wear a bodysuit. Anything loose wouldnt really go as the jeans already add volume and I'm not sure what shoes would work I'm not sure I'd keep them- sorry if that seems rude to say so.

puds11 · 31/01/2020 08:56

They look too big for you. Can you put a statement belt on?

Squiz81 · 31/01/2020 09:14

You've got a lovely figure and I don't think the jeans are doing you any favours to be honest. If you're in two minds about them I'd send them back

Otter46 · 31/01/2020 09:32

Thanks for the honesty! I do appreciate it. Do you think they’re too full on the hips? As that seems to be the deliberate style/cut of high waisted ‘mom’ style jeans. Back to square one then, I live in tights and skirts as just can’t get trousers to fit well on the waist (or if they do they’re straining over my bottom area!).

Bluntness100 · 31/01/2020 09:34

I'm sorry op they are not good, they fit on your waist but past that look like clown trousers. I actually can't tell if you are carrying significant weight from hips down or the jeans do it.

recklessgran · 31/01/2020 09:35

Really sorry OP but in the nicest possible way they are ghastly and make you look enormous on the bottom. Are they a few sizes too big or are they meant to look like that? With your figure you'd look fantastic in skinnies and can wear those with all manner of tops.

ClientQueen · 31/01/2020 09:38

Have you tried next hypercurve? V good if you have a small waist, they don't gape at the waist

Namethecat · 31/01/2020 09:39

Your lovely and slim , but these jeans seem to overwhelm your bottom half.
I can imagine you could grap the material at your hips and also legs . You definitely need a slimmer fit.

Otter46 · 31/01/2020 09:49

Haha I think it’s meant to be the style lucyandyak.com/products/twill-pant-solid-black?variant=30994141839463

Skinnies def do not suit me. I find so many jeans are meant to be my size going on waist size but just can’t get them up over my hips/bum.

OP posts:
Floisme · 31/01/2020 10:16

Have you tried rolling them up just a bit higher so there's a flash of ankle visible? I find it really helps draw the eye away from my hips. It may not feel very practical in the current weather but it'll be spring soon.

Failing that I'd look for some high waisted wide legs and try them with a fitted or tucked in top. They would bypass your hips altogether and put all the focus where it belongs, on your teeny-tiny waist.

If you struggle with the hips/waist sizing I'd buy them to fit on the hips and get the waist taken in.

cakeandchampagne · 31/01/2020 10:30

I’d talk to a tailor. It might cost less than you think to have some things altered.

The jeans in the photos look too chunky for your body.

Ellapaella · 31/01/2020 10:31

They do seem a little too big. If you like that style have a look at Whistle Barrel leg jeans as I think they'd be right up your street and a better fit.

FruityWidow · 31/01/2020 10:54

I think they look fine and the oversized look is quite fashionable these days. I see it a lot in London.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 31/01/2020 10:54

over sized is fine it you can show how small your waist is- fitted top!

TheJoxter · 31/01/2020 11:00

I wear my high waisted jeans with tucked in merino polo neck tops in winter. I think it looks good! No one’s told me I look ridiculous yet anyway

Floisme · 31/01/2020 11:01

Yes I've tried the Whistles Barrel jeans and I think the curve is just a little bit lower down the leg - there's not a lot in it but it's much kinder on my thighs.
Or Uniqlo U have got some curved jeans in their latest preview. They're a bit wider than Whistles but I've bought them in a past season and really liked them.

Ninkanink · 31/01/2020 11:01

Best tip for jeans, especially if you have hips/bum and a small waist - buy the smallest size that fits you well on the bigger area(s), and then have them altered to fit you perfectly on the waist. It will make a huge difference! Well worth the cost.

lexiepuppy · 31/01/2020 11:05

I think if you wear them with a silky camisole top and blazer/cardigan they will look nice.
There are slouch jeans on the Zara site that are more structured and taper in at the ankle.
You have a really lovely body shape and I'm surprised you can't wear skinny jeans.

Another options is buying a pair of vintage 501's and getting them tailored to your waist.

ShirleyPhallus · 31/01/2020 11:07

Sorry OP but they look nothing like they look on the model, they fit her but look like you’re wearing a pair of your dad’s old slacks

Ageee with getting some jeans and getting them tailored to the waist, you have a lovely small waist but these jeans make your hips look way too big

KondoKonvert · 31/01/2020 12:21

I have to echo the PPs saying these aren't the jeans for you. You have a great figure and these do make you look bigger than you are!

Otter46 · 31/01/2020 13:46

Dad’s old slacks made me chuckle!
Cheers for the brand/style suggestions I’ll check them all out. Basically my waist is about 27-28 inches and my hips 38-39 inches so not a surprise a lot of trousers don’t fit as they’re meant to. Plus two kids have added a stone to my weight so that’s no helping on the trouser front :)

SallyWD · 31/01/2020 14:03

You have a lovely slim figure but I think these make your bottom half look much bigger than it really is. I'm sure you could find more flattering jeans than those.
