DP said he’ll buy me a handbag for my birthday. I’ve never had a nice one before. What designer would you look at?

Wildorchidz · 30/01/2020 23:23

What’s your budget?

WellHolyGodMiley · 30/01/2020 23:25

oooooooooooh, my kind of thread.

I'd love a Loewe Hammock or a Channel Gabrielle Hobo (both in medium).

What's the budget?

Tippexy · 30/01/2020 23:26

Aspinal

Bouledeneige · 30/01/2020 23:28

I'm a Mulberry addict.

I also like Aspinal, Loewe and Furla and Chloe See.

OntheWaves40 · 30/01/2020 23:31

Not sure on budget, I think i’ll have to throw in a couple of options and see what he goes for

You need to share your budget pronto because if you google one or two of these suggestions you may pass out Wink
There are great bags from £200 upwards. I’d love a nice leather Prada bag myself but can’t bring myself to pay the price. I have a Mulberry and an Aspinall and a couple of Coach bags that I like. Also a lovely pale mint Kate Spade bought 6 years ago before they were everywhere. Maybe one day I’ll get the Prada and the Goyard.

OntheWaves40 · 30/01/2020 23:52

Yep nearly passed out! I’m thinking more along lines of £200-300

Girls. Gorgeous, good quality, good price point. Or have a look at brand alley to see what's in their sale.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 30/01/2020 23:59

Furla. Not girls Hmm

LightDrizzle · 30/01/2020 23:59

This isn’t my natural habitat but I’m sure you’ll get lots of great suggestions in that price range. Coach have a really good range of styles and colours. They also have very good after sales service and will clean your bag if you take it in.

QueenOfOversharing · 31/01/2020 00:04

Loewe, Coach, Zadig & Voltaire, Bottega Veneta, Chloe... I wish I had money!!

WellHolyGodMiley · 31/01/2020 07:29

I dont know why but coach handbags annoy me. Yes some are quite nice but the majority are all spoiled by that dip in the middle, the sunken zipped compartment in the middle. Dykwim?
In that price range id go for See by Chloe.

WellHolyGodMiley · 31/01/2020 07:30

Ah right i see budget. That changed yhe thread!

Youngatheart00 · 31/01/2020 07:32

Another vote for Coach. Lovely range of styles and colours, I’m on my third and have always found them good quality.

Deathraystare · 31/01/2020 09:14

My handbag loving friend warned me off Mulberry (like I can afford those prices!!!). Apparently they can be rather heavy.

MinesaPinot · 31/01/2020 09:36

I'd suggest Coach and Furla and also Aspinall. And I'm probably going to get shot down in flames for this, but I am really impressed with the bags that I have bought from Michael Kors - the quality and finish is excellent (avoid the monogram and anything too 'obvious'). They've got a sale on at the moment which might give you some idea - I am extremely tempted by this

I love fashion but am not into high end designer brands, I like something more discreet so my favourite bag brand is Coach, very classy bags with a good price tag and great quality. Happy buying!

positive80 · 31/01/2020 09:45

I like the look of some Michael Kors but can't face the MK logo, I used lived in Milton Keynes which is referred to as MK and I hated the place, so the MK logo makes me feel I'm carrying a MK bag!! And people in MK love MK prob for that reason!

HepburnKNotA · 31/01/2020 09:45

For 200-300 you could get a nice Logchamp. Their bags do go even higher than that so you might have to be careful but it depends what size you're looking for amongst other things. I have spent more on other bags but I have NEVER been disappointed with a Longchamp, they last beautifully, are more stylish/less clunky than Coach imvho.

They're not exactly cutting-edge but some of the designs are just so elegant and beautiful.

Leather is gorgeous and much softer than eg Kate Spade/Coach/Lauren by Ralph Lauren.

Yes, a lot of their bags go up easily into the 400-500, even higher.

But with your budget, assuming you can make a small-ish bag work for your lifestyle (and not be cramming everything into a plastic bag alongside it!) I would absolutely go for a smaller Longchamp rather than eg a larger Radley or Cocinelle or something.

I press-ganged DH into buying me a Loewe for my 40th but slightly wish I'd gone for a Longchamp instead! My budget was a bit higher (special birthday!) so closer to 800 but I could have got a STUNNING Longchamp for that instead of a lovely but not so usuable lower-range Loewe. I was seduced by the brand name, silly me. Admittedly my Loewe is gorgeous but when I think of the Longcha,p gorgeousness I could have got for 800 I feel very very silly indeed.

Happy shopping! I LOVE a bag thread and people know a lot on here...

ZaraW · 31/01/2020 09:52

Whistles have nice bags in your price range. I also like Mirta handmade Italian bags.

HepburnKNotA · 31/01/2020 09:57

Here's a nice Longchamp bag OP, just to illustrate - it's £360 so may be out of range, but the website has others closer to 300 in other styles.

Alos you may not like cross-body, but it's just an illustration (of the kind of bags I LOVE) - basically I just fancied a little nip onto the Longchamp site for a browse, their Penelope bag is my absolute dream bag at the moment but it's £££!

Oh, oh and look at Staud! I have a bag from there that I'm actually in love with. I think they're more like 250-400ish as well. Linking to one below. They tend ot be on the smaller side but I'm making a huge move towards smaller bags as I find big bags give me terrible neck problems - and I just love the idea, at least, of feeling streamlined!

Oooh I love a bag thread. I've got three from Coach and they are beautiful quality. For your budget also have a look at DKNY, Kate Spade and Furla. If you can get to Cheshire Oaks the outlets for those brands are fab.

BayandBlonde · 31/01/2020 17:03

Grays Handbag £150-200
Fairfax and Favor £350+
Hermes £2000+

Personally I like Fairfax and Favor 😊

bringbackspanishflu · 31/01/2020 18:30

What kind of bag do you want?
I went with a Radley as they had the size and style I wanted
