Should I keep these or choose a different style?

I'm going back to secondary teaching this year and have been buying some new shoes. I normally wear flats, but thought I'd try some low heels. I bought these but can't decide. I like them but not sure. 11 year old dd has told me they are very ugly... What do you think? I normally wear dresses or skirts. If not, any suggestions for styles? I'm not in the UK but I may be able to find similar. I've bought Clarks black trigenic flats as I have them in a different colour and they were really comfy when I was teaching a year ago. I struggle as I have quite wide feet and need shoes to be really comfy, but also want something reasonably stylish. I'm late 30s if it matters 😁 No adults to ask in real life at the moment...

Oh goodness me, i can't imagine my granny wearing those, so sorry to be brutal. Have you tried looking at the next comfort range. I'll have a look

mnthrowaway202020 · 30/01/2020 20:56

I wouldn’t say the shoes are stylish, in fact I think they would look nicer without the heel. However if you like them, that’s all that matters!

They do look like shoes a teacher would wear though. What sort of outfits do you wear to work?

Myshitisreal · 30/01/2020 21:00

Ahhhh wide think

Is they anything here www.debenhams.com/women/shoes-boots/shoes/wide-fit?CMP=KNC_4358241016_6466250110_84280399384_ladies%20wide%20fit%20shoe_e&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=Cj0KCQiAmsrxBRDaARIsANyiD1o-CmBEuKOdMHPK2CNPjALvM_IN0BZd9TXp_LYmvvXYAk9mtVQGpiEaAs-BEALw_wcB

Previous poster is right, it depends how your dress and your image. I couldn't wear them. Hope you're able to find some you really like which are comfy

dontevenblink · 30/01/2020 21:02

I need brutal opinions 😁 For teaching I just need something that I can stand in all day, but not trainers etc. I really need a new wardrobe to be honest, I've been teaching some primary school which is very casual here, but going back into secondary and it's much smarter. I would normally wear a dress or skirt around knee length, I'm a size 10, 32 F, so nothing too low cut...

mnthrowaway202020 · 30/01/2020 21:12

I think you should try some ankle boots with a low block heel instead - super comfy and easy to walk in, you’ll be able stay on your feet all day without issue etc. Looks more professional/smart than trainers.

That website (Hannahs) has lots of boot options to the point that I can’t chose which to link to! Maybe try a black and a tan/grey colour, or if it’s suits your style you can try longer length boots like calf or knee length.

Or maybe loafers with a slight platform like Dr Marten 1461

If you want eg court heels, go for block heels for comfort.

dontevenblink · 30/01/2020 21:28

I think you're right mnthrowaway, ankle boots would be a better choice and suits my style, it's just so hot here at the moment. Although they might be ok, as I don't really think I can wear sandals. They are a bit cheaper at the moment too as out of season. If anyone wants to look at the hannahs site and give me some links that help me narrow it down it would be much appreciated! I have some black clothes, some dark blue, so maybe a tan would work

Op how old are you if I can ask? I like the second pair better 😊

These are pretty inoffensive www.hannahs.co.nz/womens/clayton-ankle-boots-black also available in tan

nzeire · 30/01/2020 22:44

Why no trainers?

2monstermash · 30/01/2020 22:45

Hideous, sorry op

Go for a chic flat, plenty of comfy options out there. Do you have to wear the same shoe every day?

justasking111 · 30/01/2020 22:48

My friend in teaching started out in heels now migrated to flats, never thought I would see that day. She says carrying all the books in and out of school was giving her awful backache, the physio. she visited said that the weight of all the books was throwing her posture out, the heels just exacerbated the problem.

Thanks for your help everyone, I'm going to have a good look through those! Wow myshitisreal that's a lot of shoes - thanks 😀

I only ever really wear flats so think I should stick to them probably, I was maybe thinking as I'm only a couple of years off 40 maybe I should try some older heeled shoes, I may have gone too old 😁 I have some shoes, would just like some variety.

These are supposed to be ultra comfy, people here rave about them, but they are very pricey www.allbirds.co.nz/products/womens-tree-breezers-harvest

Myshitisreal · 31/01/2020 02:10

I think mine are all flats or very low heels. It's so subjective isn't it. I'm 41 but dress alternatively so I'm sure we have very different styles 😁😁 look forward to seeing what you choose 😉

mathanxiety · 31/01/2020 05:51

Black boots are far nicer than brown with black or navy trousers.
The Clayton (Hannah's) ankle boots in black are very nice.
So are the 'Equality' ankle boots, but in black.
Ditto the Kadder lace up ankle boots.

Allbirds are very comfortable but possibly not as formal as you will need.

I am in NZ too and to be honest Hannah’s shoes are pretty awful - a pair that I had smelt awful after a couple wears. I saw a pair Minx trainers with a high heel today which looked comfortable. There is a shop which sells Clarke’s shoes in Merivale in Chch .
I wear all birds to work - the ones with same coloured sole as uppers look more formal.
I have a pair of winter low heel boots that are Mckinleys - madei. Dunedin and the dark brown pair are beautiful - I will wear them in Autumn with socks.
Good luck!

dontevenblink · 31/01/2020 09:59

Luna I agree about most of Hannahs shoes, I've only bought Hush Puppies and Clarks from them before. Such a limited choice over here sometimes. I'll have a think about all birds, are they quite narrow?

My dc went to school in Merivale for a few years, some nice shoe shops there, but we're in Hawkes Bay now. I might go and have a wander around Napier in the more unusual shops and see what I can find. I do like quite quirky stuff sometimes and shoes have to be very comfy for me to wear them so it can be very tricky! I do like 50s/60s vintage type tea dresses and i love floral prints, so I might think along those lines for inspiration.

math those shoes look nice, I'll have a good look at that list and see if I can track any down here.

I'm going to take those shoes back tomorrow and attempt to look at what else there is without my 4dc moaning too much...

Reginabambina · 31/01/2020 10:02

I’d wear them.

LunaTheCat · 01/02/2020 06:02

All birds are not a narrow fit and because they are wool they ease to your foot.
Gosh you must be hot in Hawkes Bay. In Canterbury and is just so so dry.

StCharlotte · 01/02/2020 09:30

After all the comments I was expecting to hate them but I think they're really nice.

Can you wear stuff like this?
