Parsley1234 · 29/01/2020 08:15

I need a style makeover ! I am 53 I love Emmanuel Alt style with a bit rock chick can anyone help create a capsule wardrobe for day to day plus evening. I’m a stone heavier than I’m aiming for so size 12 big boobs aiming for a 10 hopefully smaller boobs.
I’m thinking to start good jeans t shirts jumpers jewellery recommendations - budget open as I deal in clothes and am a devil for finding bargains - fealibg in clothes is great but I end up with loads of items that don’t suit but I don’t want to sell !

Also love the Emmanuel Alt look. Think the French shops are good for it: Sandro, BA&SH, Maje, the kooples, Zadig & Voltaire also good. I like Anine Bing too actually. Isabel Marant (although I look crap in it).

Skinny black jeans, or ankle grazing trousers, pointy shoes/boots, a shirt and black hair! I forgot about the blazer, but yes that too - just need it to be a bit warmer I think.

Also leather jackets,

Recommendation for black jeans or trousers please with a bit of stretch !

I'm always recommending livelovesara.com both her blog and Instagram. She has a rock chick kind of look and posts lots of capsule wardrobe ideas

Annasgirl · 31/01/2020 18:39

Zara have good black trousers with stretch.

Black jeans with stretch - it depends on how much you want to pay. I love Seven for All Mankind Jeans and Citizens of Humanity and I buy them in the sales or on eBay as I know the style I like.

For cheaper ones, Topshop get loads of rave reviews and I also like H and M and Zara for jeans - but really jeans preference depends on your shape so I might love some store that you hate and vice versa.

Parsley1234 · 31/01/2020 19:00

Thank you @annasgirl I need to try them on I think I like the mishmosh ones and 7 for mankind

I think I’m channeling her tonight.Skinny coated jeans , long Jigsaw blazer ( think it’s actually called Marais so a bit French), a silk cotton shirt ( massimo dutti) and Whistles heels. Long chain earrings. Jaeger clutch for a pop of animal print. Job done :)

Sagradafamiliar · 31/01/2020 20:13

Oooh great thread.

ScoutFinchsHam · 31/01/2020 20:35

Great thread, love it! I love this look too but wonder if I can pull it off with blonde curly hair?! Just had a look at The Kooples - it’s really expensive!

zippyswife · 31/01/2020 21:01

Got to place mark. Not sure I can nail this as a fair skinned redhead. Love the look though.

Parsley1234 · 31/01/2020 21:09

My wardrobe cull is not going well - one way is good I’ve bought a pair of Baxter jeans for £2.20 and a Kooples silk shirt for £15 however ! I’m finding hard to relinquish items I think the idea up thread to put into a suitcase might be the answer and the interview with EA was really good thank you @EdinaMonsoon

Great thread - may I join? I’ve been reading the book All Black Everything by Sally Faye and following her on Insta. Lots of cool rock chick items and she recommends a lot of the brands already mentioned on this thread.
I’ve just bought some Levi 721 skinny jeans in black, high waisted with a good amount of stretch - would definitely recommend.

EdinaMonsoon · 31/01/2020 23:53

@Tempnamelady Sounds perfect!

@ThatThereWoman Yes to leather jackets. Had forgotten that element from my list! Am actually looking for a burgundy biker jacket (have been searching for over 2 years) but needs to be collarless. Anything with a classic biker collar makes me look like I've wandered away from the Grease set Grin

@ScoutFinchsHam Yes absolutely you can do this look with blonde curly hair :) I'm blonde and v messy/wavy. Take a look at Clemence Poesy. She's another of my French Woman Crushes.

Meant to say, eBay and Vestiare Collective are both great for finding high end items for a more affordable price such as Isabel Marant or high end boutique brands such as Sandro or The Kooples.

@Parsley1234 Glad you enjoyed the EA interview. I also love Garance Doré and her style is particularly good if you feel you suit a more oversized, relaxed chic.

@shopafrolic Off to search for Sally Faye on IG: thanks for the recommendation.

MikeAlphaMike · 01/02/2020 01:36

Only skimmed the thread, but suggest that if your bosom is on the large side, shop around for a polo neck - a more cowl-neck style or (not sure of the technical term) or a sort of grown on high neck might work better. I look huge and busty in a polo but a looser neck is fine.

ThatThereWoman · 01/02/2020 07:50

Someone I follow on insta has just bought some YSL ankle boots. They're bloody gorgeous Envy

I'm going into Oxford St today @shopafrolic may look up those jeans thanks! and the book too - I wear ALOT of black.

shopafrolic · 01/02/2020 19:04

ThatThere I used to wear so much black and LOVED it. Then I got ‘encouraged’ away from it but Sally Faye has inspired me to take another look. She’s a lot younger than me (I’m 47) but I feel as though she has a great basic wardrobe that would work for everyone.

Tempnamelady · 01/02/2020 20:44

The book is sold out on Amazon :(

shopafrolic · 01/02/2020 21:19

you can buy it direct here
Or from Waterstones I believe.

Shannith · 01/02/2020 22:31

This is very interesting.

I like this look a lot. Need a plan to slowly build a wardrobe that not jodhpurs or leggings!

shopafrolic · 02/02/2020 09:14

@EdinaMonsoonAny good?

Notcontent · 02/02/2020 14:10

I have really enjoyed reading this thread, as it has taken me a really long time to realise that this is the look I feel most happy wearing and therefore I need to stop buying random things that make me look and feel frumpy... I am in my 40s by the way.

EdinaMonsoon · 02/02/2020 14:29

@shopafrolic Thank you. That's lovely but unfortunately I think it would be too short in the body. I have a long body & short legs (#blessed Grin ) and that length would sit too high on my torso.

@Notcontent Glad you have found it helpful. I think this look suits a lot of women are age because it is so simple, dressed down but has an elegance to it and is based on good quality items. I have found that the older I get, the more I need to spend or rather the more careful I need to be wrt fabrics & cut.

Buggedandconfused · 02/02/2020 19:13

@EdinaMonsoon You may like the Isabel Marant Kady jacket. Keep your eye on eBay - this one is in the USA but have linked to show you the style... no lapels! Very cool.

EdinaMonsoon · 04/02/2020 12:42

@Buggedandconfused Love that jacket.

How's everyone getting on with their wardrobe revamps/sorting?

I'm doing mine this week. I think I have pretty much everything I need. Although I would like a pair of ecru trousers or jeans for A/W. I have white and I have worn them with caramel or black knits in the winter but they somehow seem too stark.
