What to wear on holiday?

I’m going to Italy this summer, staying in quite a swanky looking hotel & probably going to fairly posh restaurants - what do I wear?

I’m generally ok during the day, my problem is going out in the evening, I never seem to look dressed enough.

I would really like some ideas of styles of dress/shoes/bags I should be looking for.
It’s ages away so doesn’t have to be the exact dress, just examples to give me an idea of what I should be wearing, with suitable shoes & bags.

I’m 44, short, size 14 & can’t wear heels.

I’ve had a couple of years of crappy health & have really let myself go, by summer I’m determined to feel better about how I look.

Help me oh stylish ones Grin

I got a great rafia belt with a tortoiseshell buckle from Zara last year. It is lovely with dresses.

Why not set up a Pinterest board and think about what you need.

I don’t think I’ve ever worn a belt that wasn’t to keep my jeans up!
I will investigate belts & wedges.
I know I’ve got ages but I need a plan to get me out of my rut ( Pinterest is a good idea)

It’s fun planning - I am the same! 😊

Ps belts on dresses are a bit of a revelation to me. Zara have great ones (you’ll need to wait for the summer stuff though)

How about this? I have it and wear it on the shoulder not off. It’s gorgeous 💗 great price too. Maybe a gentler way to get into colour?

I'm envious!

I wouldn't bother with heels, boden do some lovely flats

As for bags - something very classic. It's probably worth buying out there though.

Shops I would look at are Zara, boden, mango and massimo Dutti

Big gold earrings from Mango or Zara. I also had an amazing pair of gold sliders from Primark last year that actually looked glam at night too and only cost six pounds. Lots of gold basically! A clutch bag is always good too. Xx

I’m a dress person
Currently on holiday somewhere hot (For a week)
I’ve packed 7 day dresses and 7 evening dresses!
Swimwear, sandals and lingerie
During the day I tend to wear linen or cotton - can be anywhere from jaeger, massimo dutti, next M n S etc
Evenings I like a wrap dress or something more fitted - I have a few Ralph Lauren dresses, phase eight and shop quite a lot at tkmaxx

nancy75 · 25/01/2020 23:40

Jace, that’s what I aim for, just dresses & no messing about with tops & bottoms!

If you wear flats then a maxi dress looks good imo - the proportions tend to look better than with other skirt lengths.

So I often go on hol in Italy. I have a couple of loose cropped jumpsuits with cinched in waist that I wear with wedges or Sandals. A floral midi dresses. A long 70s style dress. And lovely white dress of two thin layers. Hard to describe properly but love it. I have a few DVF wrap dresses but they would be too hot if temp in 30s at night. Sezane great for summer wear that you can dress up and down by the way.

Nancy, I know you are not keen, but with your hair and colouring the pink/orange one would look amazing on you. Please consider it.

I'm not sure of budget but for beautiful leather sandals try Ancient Greek sandals. I also really like gold or pewter flat sandals. I treated myself to some tan Hermes Oran sandals a couple of years ago and love them on holidays.
